Half Yours

2025 Caulfield Cup Preview

The 2025 Caulfield Cup headlines Saturday’s racing at Caulfield, bringing together an outstanding field of local and international stayers for the $5 million feature over 2400m. Traditionally one of the great lead-ups to the Melbourne Cup, this year’s edition has exceptional depth and a fascinating mix of proven Group 1 stars and emerging stayers.

Half Yours has drawn beautifully in barrier 2 and carries 52.5 kg — the combination of low weight and inside draw makes him a serious danger and unsprisingly sees him as our race favourite ($2.80 at Dabble) after an impressive showing in the Naturalism Stakes. Trainer Chris Waller fields multiple entries, including Land Legend, River of Stars, Birdman and Valiant King, adding tactical depth to the field.

Overseas entries include Meydaan (UK), Presage Nocturne (France), Absurde (UK) and Golden Snap (Japan) — each bringing international staying form to the mix.

Half Yours is the favourite for a reason — ideal weight, draw, and form – and is our top pick.

2025 Everest Preview

Meanwhile, at Randwick, The Everest once again takes centre stage as the richest turf race in the world, drawing together a stellar sprint field for the $20 million feature over 1200m. This year’s renewal looks one of the strongest yet, with a perfect blend of star sprinters, emerging speedsters, and a few surprise entries from the slot-holders.

Headlining the field is Ka Ying Rising, the Hong Kong star on a 13-race winning streak. He is widely regarded as the top sprinter in the world and commands respect in all markets. That said, his recent trial form raised some eyebrows — connections emphasize that the trial was not reflective of his best work, and are confident he will revert to his superior standard on race day.

Other chances include Joliestar, Lady Shenandoah, Angel Capital (all Waller’s entries), Briasa, Overpass, War Machine, Jedibeel, Tempted, and Magic Time.

Ka Ying Rising has drawn barrier 7 which isn’t too bad – he should be able to settle mid-pack and strike late. He might be vulnerable if he gets trapped outside and has to do too much work. While the trial was underwhelming, his class and consistency make him hard to fault. For a bit of cover, Joliestar is the danger, particularly if he lands in a good spot and handles the pressure.
