Melbourne Cup
The Melbourne Cup is the race that stops the nation! Australia’s most famous horse race is run on the first Tuesday of November every year at Flemington in Melbourne and is a wonderful spectacle of fashion, colour and racing excitement. It’s also a great day for racing punters with our Melbourne Cup tips proving very profitable!
The Mebourne Cup has a long and cherished history, dating back to the first race in 1861 won by the mighty Archer. Held over 3200 metres, some of the greats of the sport have claimed the Cup including Phar Lap (1930), Peter Pan (1932, 1934), Think Big (1974, 1975), Kinston Rule (1990), Might and Power (1997) and Makybe Diva (2003, 2004, 2005).
In 2020 the prize money for the Melbourne Cup totalled $8 million, with the winner taking home a little over half of that amount.
