WA racing heads to Ascot on Saturday, with the nine-race card headlined by the Listed Natasha Stakes and the Listed J.C. Roberts Stakes.

We kick off the day with the 2YO’s over 1200m.

(1) Hear Me Sing has been good in both runs back from a spell, hitting the line hard from back in the field. Draws barrier 11 today so likely to be back there again, but $5.00 isn’t a bad price about him.

(8) Far Too Strong is on debut for Lindsey Smith and Chris Parnham, which is an ominous combination. They strike at about 32% when they team up so Parnham going on for this horse’s debut is eye-catching. Drawn a touch awkward in 9 but at $8.00 has to be a bet.

Keen to follow up on (4) Savage One who is two from two this preparation. He scrambled in first up at Geraldton but was well backed and bolted in at Pinjarra last start. Should be very hard to beat again.

Interested to see (6) Big Screen on debut for the new stable. Kyra Yuill jumps off Our Boy Dylan to ride this horse which won his trial easily. Looks to have improved significantly for the new trainer and at $18 can run a decent race.

(7) Miss Marietta was our best bet last start when she absolutely belted her rivals over this distance at Pinjarra. The margin was 3.2L but she won with the handbrake firmly on. Each run this preparation has been better and better, so with the gun run from barrier 1 here, she looks hard to beat again.

I’ve been against Cuballing in his past couple of starts and he keeps finding a way to win, but I really think (4) River Beau can get the better of him today. He was terrific first up behind Plutocracy and Mood Swings, and he tends to improve with a run under his belt. Goes well at the track and distance, goes well second up, draws well in barrier 4 and this looks a very nice race for him.

I’ll once again be buttering up on (9) Holy Ghost who is begging to win a race. He was enormous behind Cuballing two starts ago and luckless once again last time out. He gets a small weight swing on Cuballing from when they met, when the margin was just 0.25L, yet one is $12 while the other is $3.20. He’ll be back again from the wide draw but must include at the odds.

Tim Geers

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
