Sydney racing heads to Randwick on Saturday for a 10-race card, featuring the Listed Winter Stakes.
The track is currently a Soft 7 but there is more rain predicted on race day so I’d be expecting the track to end up in the heavy range. The rail is out 6m from the 1600m to the Winning Post, and 4m for the remainder of the course.
The feature comes up in Race 8 on the card, with Tim Geers tipping two horses at double figure odds as his best value bets of the day. His best bet comes up in Race 5.

(9) Sir Crackle looks primed for his debut here on the back of three winning trials. The first of those was back in February before having a break and returning with two more. Both of those have been on heavy ground and he’s pulled away to win impressively. He’s also shown the ability to lead or sit off something, so he may have some versatility. Expect they’ll go forward from the wide gate and with any luck, he should be very hard to beat.
(10) Sky Command draws one to his inside in barrier 11. She comes off a good win on debut when heavily backed at big odds. Her winning time was slower than the boys on the same day but no surprise to see her run a good race again.
The winner of the boys’ division on that day was (4) Dragonstone and obviously has to be respected if you’re giving Sky Command a chance.
Interesting betting move for the Victorian (1) Darceandermill who won his first two this prep before finishing 3rd last start.

Slightly trappy race this. (9) Allinthistogether goes on top. Ran within 0.2L of the winner on debut at Canterbury in a race which has so far proved pretty strong, and then went to Gosford for an easy kill last start. Bit of an awkward draw in barrier 7 of 9 but looks a winnable race and expect her to go close.
(1) Kobe Rocks won two back and then didn’t get the clearest of passages last time out. Can improve with the positive jockey change and has so far put in three good runs on heavy ground.
(5) Titanium Power comes here on the quick back up and Tim Clark goes on. Should lead and give a good sight.

Might as well close your eyes and throw a dart here for the Highway.
(1) Casino Kid bolted in to win a similar race last start but he goes up in weight and also cops a wide draw here so it will be a very different race to the one he won, where he got a dream run throughout.
(19) Cavalier Charles started $2.50 in a Highway last start over 1200m and was a big runin defeat. Up to 1400m now, JMac sticks and if he gets a run he’ll be right in it, but he needs a couple more scratchings.
(6) Birdonawinningpost might be one of the more progressive horses in the field. Last time we saw him he won a Highway over 1800m and was in great form in the country prior to that. Resumes over 1400m today which might be short of his best but Tommy Berry goes on, he gets a good draw and I think he’ll be hard to beat.
(10) Zoo Station has three wins from five starts, including a similar race at Rosehill last start, and has to be considered.

(4) De Grawin comes up near enough to favourite here coming out of a strong form race with the blinkers back on, but I can’t be confident after her first two runs back this prep, which have been ordinary.
(7) Van Giz is racing in great form but just leaves herself with too much to do after stepping away slowly. The barrier blanket goes on for the first time today in an attempt to get her to jump better.
(1) Dunbrody Power doesn’t have the best second up record but this is the kind of race she can be very competitive in.
(6) Dame Kiri has an outstanding first up record but this might just be short of her best distance.

Just looks a perfect set up for (3) Harpo Marx here. He went into my horses to follow list last start after recording the fastest final 400m and 200m of the race. I said on that occasion it might just be one run too short and this is when he’d be peaking. He comes here on the quick back up, up to 2000m and third up from a spell. He’s won two from three when third up in the past so with any luck from the wide gate, he looks the horse to beat and is my best of the day.
(8) Our Intrigue was OK at her first Australian start, finishing 4th. Up in distance and JMac takes over from Lee Magorrian, so she might be ready to show something.
(2) Criminal Code was good first up and had excuses last start.

(1) Lancaster Bomber ticks plenty of boxes here. Comes out of a very strong form race behind Malkovich, who has since come out and won again in Melbourne. Our Bellagio Miss has also come out of that race and won, while the runner-up Hulk ran a luckless 2nd at his next start. Lancaster Bomber ran 3rd and he comes into this with a terrific second up record, with three wins from five starts. He ran 3rd first up last prep before winning second up. Has a great record on wet tracks as well, so everything aligns for him to give this a huge shake.
(3) Hulk ran 2nd ahead of Lancaster Bomber two starts ago and then ran a luckless 2nd again last start. The query with him is exactly that – he’s now run 11 seconds in his career!
(2) The Bopper has talent and resumes from a spell. Wary of any market move.

As it stands, there’s no run for the favourite (13) Bazooka who is first emergency. If he gains a run he’ll be giving this a big crack. He’s third up, comes out of a decent race and has a good record on heavy ground.
Without him, it’s very open (it’s open with him too). (5) Cuban Royale was sound first up and has a decent second up record, so at $15 he looks a bit of value.
(6) Ashim was also sound first up, which was his first start on Australian soil. I’d rather he step up in distance but he comes out of a decent race and should improve off that run.

The Listed Winter Stakes is the feature of the day and I found it a very difficult race to work out. Small bets on two at good odds here.
(3) Countofmontecristo is a former Singapore galloper who ran 4th on Australian debut first up. That was over 1100m and he steps up to 1400m now, with James McDonald going on. Yet to run on heavy ground so that’s some query, but he’s placed six times at Group 1 level and is a three-time Group 2 winner, so his best form would win this. Goes well second up.
(4) Riodini comes into this first up from a spell with two trials under the belt and the blinkers back on. He placed in the G2 Shannon Stakes and the G1 Epsom Handicap last preparation. Still chasing his first win since arriving in Australia but he may well improve in his second preparation this time around.
(6) Rubisaki loves wet tracks and has run well in Melbourne her past two. It’s been a while since she’s won though and this is a decent field.
(17) Le Gai Soleil ahs been freshened back to 1400m and goes well in the wet. Was disappointing last start but forgive her one bad run.

(2) Frosty Rocks relishes wet ground which he’ll get today and he typically goes well first up from a spell. Has a good record here at Randwick, both trials have been good, carries the full weight with the senior rider on and he looks set to go very close.
(12) Madam Legend won first up and beat Hulk, who brought some good form into that race. Goes well second up, loves the wet and returns to her home track, so she can win again without surprising.
(7) Ventura Ocean is undefeated from two starts in Australia. They were both in Brisbane and he has his first Sydney start here after a four-month break. JMac booked fresh is a good lead but notably his two runs on soft ground have both been failures.
(8) Dream Circle was too bad to be true last start. He started $3.40 there and he’s $26 on the back of one bad run, but there’s no jockey listed so every chance he gets scratched in the morning.

(9) Off Shaw should be ready to win now. He improved nicely from his first up run to his second up run, going down narrowly to stablemate (5) Matowatakpe. Meets that horse better at the weights today and is third up so should be peaking. Matowatakpe can definitely go well again as well.
(2) Ulysees was disappointing last start but can be forgiven for that. On best form would go close to winning this so double figure odds appeals.
