No Group 1 racing today but it’s a stacked card at Randwick for Chelmsford Stakes day, featuring a number of Group 1 performers.
The Chelmsford comes up in Race 8 and is supported by the Tramway Stakes, Furious Stakes and Concorde Stakes.
The track is currently rated a Soft 5 but there is plenty of rain predicted so expect a downgrade. The rail is out 4m the entire circuit.

Count me out of betting in the 15-runner Highway on a wet track to start the day.
(2) Parksville comes out of a midweek metro race back to a Highway and should take plenty of running down from the front.
(19) Molly Nails won by 7L first up last prep before running in races like the Canberra Guineas. Wet track an unknown but draws a nice gate for a good run behind the speed.
(5) Commando Hunt looks huge odds for a horse that won in this grade last start and had no luck the start prior.

(7) Selburose is knocking on the door for another win, coming into this off two narrow defeats. Draws well again today and JMac goes on so should have every chance once again.
(5) Nags To Riches won first up and then ran 5th behind More Prophets, who we saw come out and win yesterday’s Mona Lisa at Wyong. Heavy track should be no problem if it gets to that range.

The only runner I could be tempted to back here is (14) Enduring Night at the big odds. I was with her last start when she ran second last but her run really wasn’t all that bad. She was a mile off the leaders on the turn and then ran up backsides the entire straight. Wet ground no concern, she’s likely to be way off them again which is the reason she doesn’t win many races.

(10) Starman only comes into this off a maiden win on the Kensington track but he finds a race he can be competitive in today stepping up in grade. Drops to 53kg so loses James McDonald but with even luck, he should be in the finish.
(4) Super Effort should almost be undefeated this prep. He was enormous when winning first up at Newcastle, had no luck at all second up and then won again last start. He leaves himself with plenty to do with his racing pattern but he’s absolutely flying and must be included.
(7) Construct ran 3rd behind Tiger Of Malay and Coastwatch last start. We saw Coastwatch come out and win easily last weekend so the form looks good and he looks value at $8.00.

We see the return of (1) Nature Strip here but he’s unbackable at $1.50. He won the Lightning first up at Flemington last prep but he went down as the $1.40 first up here in the same race last year. Has an outstanding record on wet ground (and good ground for that matter) but happy to sit back and watch today.
(3) Wild Ruler has a terrific fresh record, with three wins and a 2nd from four starts. He won the Fireball Stakes first up last prep over 1100m here. The big query for him has to be the wet track, as he’s never won on the surface from three attempts.
(9) Adelong won’t be able to control the race but she does have a great record in the wet and can fill a minor.

I was against (1) Four Moves Ahead first up in the Silver Shadow Stakes but I’m going to get on her today with the wet track. Her best win was on heavy ground so perhaps the conditions will bring out her best today. Nash Rawiller just needs to do some navigating from the wide barrier.
(4) She’s All Class resumes from a spell and she’s a filly with real class. There wasn’t much between her and Four Moves Ahead last prep. First up 1200m off one quiet trial is some query, especially with the synthetic hoof filler on, but JMac goes on for Waller and I’d expect her to give this a real shake.
(2) Swift Witness sat three and four-wide the trip in the Silver Shadow and still proved too strong. No reason to knock her today.
(5) Mallory never got a crack at them first up and can go in at big odds.

The big query today is the 1400m first up for (1) Zaaki. He’s quite clearly the best horse in the race but he’s had four attempts at this distance and has never run a place. He’s never won below the mile. With all that said, all of those were back in the UK and he’s obviously been a different horse since coming to Australia. Happy to bank on him being the best horse.
(10) All Saints’ Eve ran 3rd behind Think It Over and Criaderas first up last prep, which reads pretty well after the former went on to win two Group 1s. Draws well, races well fresh and on wet tracks so I’m expecting her to go well here at double figure odds.
(5) Star Of The Seas loves the wet and gets Bowman on. Drops out of the G1 Winx Stakes back to a G2 and his best would see him hard to beat in this. Include in your numbers.
(6) Rock has an outstanding second up record with three wins from four starts.

(12) Kukeracha ran well first up in the Rowley Mile and should only improve off that run. JMac sticks with him, he draws awfully out in barrier 14 and whether the form of the Rowley Mile holds up at this level is the other query, but happy to back him as the fresh horse in this grade. We saw the winner of that race Berdibek come out and win the Wyong Gold Cup yesterday.
(3) Cascadian is starting to look the real deal. He showed he was starting to put it all together at the end of last prep when he won the Doncaster and ran a luckless 3rd in the All Aged Stakes, and his first up run in the Winx Stakes was terrific.
(1) Think It Over got no luck at a crucial stage in the Winx Stakes and might have gone close to winning with a clear run. Huge jockey change today with Rawiller taking over from James Innes Jr.

Keen to stick with (6) Cuban Royle each way here. He’s going super this horse. He won three starts ago, then sat three-wide the trip two back before working home strongly from an impossible position in running last start. Draws a much better barrier today, wet track should be no issue and if he’s closer in the run he can give this a real shake.
(13) King Of Sparta obviously looks the horse to beat coming off a track record at Kembla.

Waller has four in the race here so anything could happen, but I was really impressed with the Australian debut of (13) Atishu, who made it five wins on the bounce. She was first up on that occasion so you’d think she will only improve off that run and the wet tracks won’t bother her. Just needs some luck from the wide draw to be winning again.
(9) Charms Star is another Waller runner and JMac goes on. This horse came cross to Australia midway through its preparation last time in and went on to run 3rd in the G2 The Roses and 2nd in the QLD Oaks. She’s had a break and a full Waller prep under her belt this time around so with the inside draw and JMac on, I’m expecting her to outrun her double figure quote.
(5) All Time Legend finally gets out to 1500m which is what he needs. We might well see a different horse at this distance today, back on his home track with a wet surface.
(4) Cepheus went in the horses to follow file after his encouraging Australian debut.
