Rosehill Racing Tips: Saturday, July 24th

Tim Geers previews the 10-race card at Rosehill on Saturday, with his best bet coming up midway through the meeting.

RosehillRaceCourse

New South Wales metro racing heads to Rosehill on Saturday for another 10-race card.

We should expect to be racing on a drier track than what’s been dished up in recent weeks, with the surface currently a Soft 6 and minimal rain around. The rail is out 8m.

The Listed Winter Challenge headlines the card, while the July Sprint is another to look forward to.

Tim Geers has previewed every race on the card below, where you can find his tips, best bets and betting strategy.

Best Bet: Race 5 – (1) Harpo Marx

Best Value: Race 10 – (8) Dream Circle

If you’re betting at Rosehill today, then why not do so at PlayUp where you’ll receive a bonus bet refund up to $50 if your horse finishes 2nd or 3rd in Races 1-5 on Saturday. Terms and conditions apply. May not be available in all states. Refer to the PlayUp website for more details.

I think it’s a two-horse race here between (2) King Of Sparta and (6) Military Expert, who met on the latter’s debut at Kensington a few weeks back. King Of Sparta got the better of Military Expert that day, but the run of the runner-up in defeat had a stack of merit after being caught wide early. King Of Sparta got the cold drop on the leaders and it was Military Expert’s first race, hence the prices here suggest he can turn the tables.

If the field remains as is, we can back Military Expert and save on King Of Sparta (or just back both) but will have to reassess after final scratchings.

Betting Strategy: 1.25 units WIN Military Expert, 0.25 units WIN King Of Sparta

(11) Zoo Station won well here first up and then came from last to finish midfield last start on the day that was impossible to make ground. Has clearly returned in great order, can sit closer from the draw and be hard to beat.

You can expect Matt Dale to scratch the stablemate to give (16) Nuremburg Castle a start. He won first up and then was set an enormous task last start. Tommy Berry is an eye-catching jockey booking and third up looks a good chance.

(7) Reach Beyond is flying and Scott Singleton knows which horses to set for these races.

(2) Dream Runner gets JMac, while (1) Bold And Wild drops in class from metro to Highway company.

Absolute headache this race, with a number of horses who are suspect.

One of them is (11) Yesmeena who isn’t hopeless here at $34. Didn’t get the clearest of runs late in the race last start at Canterbury. Keep stepping slowly and working home strongly so with the light weight on her back today, she will be one to watch late.

(6) Yiyi will be popular for Waller and McDonald, coming off a big win first up at Newcastle. She has a good first up record but hasn’t really backed that up when second up in the past, which would be my query here.

(5) Black Bolt ran OK first up and should improve second up today.

(3) Go Troppo is flying and can win again,

(5) All Time Legend makes his return today and it’s good to see an exciting horse like him back at the races. He really could have won all four starts last prep but he didn’t get any luck in his two starts over the mile. He bolted in first up last prep and it’s just a case of whether he’s sharp enough over 1100m fresh. The plan is to ride him cold and give him a crack down the outside, so don’t expect to see him leading. Might well drift out on the exchange because of that, so bet late and we might get a better price.

(1) Trumbull is a very good horse in his own right. He didn’t fire fresh last prep but didn’t race again, so clearly pulled up poorly. His overall first up record is very good, my main query is he gives All Time Legend 8kg. Should go close but think he’s found one better.

Odds Last Updated: July 24, 2021, 1:36pm (AEDT)

(1) Harpo Marx was super impressive winning as our best bet last start over 2000m. He was the only horse on the day to really make significant ground down the outside, coming from last and storming over the top of his rivals. 2400m is no issue, nor is the ground, so with even luck he’s going to be hard to beat again.

(2) No Compromise gets the apprentice and draws wide so he’ll have to come from last.

(6) Montabot couldn’t go with Harpo Marx last start but was strong through the line very late, and we know the step up to 2400m is really going to suit him.

(9) Karmazone won two in the bush before coming to town last start. Didn’t get all that much luck there so don’t be surprised to see him feature.

Speaking of no luck, (10) Sound Of Cannons got none of it when he needed it last start. He looked destined to be right in the finish but got cut out. Draws inside again but can win.

(2) Misteed ran well on stable debut for Kim Waugh and looks to get a very similar run here. Loves these conditions and can run well at each way odds.

(1) Maddi Rocks makes her stable debut or John O’Shea, having previously been with Chris Waller. They throw the blinkers on for the first time today so they’re not leaving any stone unturned to try and get her back to best form. On best form, she’d be very competitive.

(13) Arousal gets blinkers on for the first time too. Did improve sharply second up last prep so with the shades applied, she might be the knockout chance at

This is the feature on the card but it’s made up of Winter horses who take turns winning. Hard to be confident in anything in the race.

(9) Cisco Bay was no hope the way the race worked out last start, coming from well back in the field to run 3rd to Oscar Zulu, who got the dream run throughout. The query is Oscar Zulu failed last weekend so the form is a bit suspect, but Cisco Bay did beat Blondeau first up who came out last weekend and won easily.

(3) Order Again is knocking on the door for another win, but they don’t come easily to him. All three runs this prep have been very good, he has three wins at this distance and gets Bowman on.

(4) Ziegfeld is the fresh and unexposed horse in the race, but he’s so far failed to make a big impression. Had to do some work last start so he wasn’t horrible, but he’d need to be doing something here if he was any good.

(5) Kirwin’s Lane will improve back to Sydney.

(4) Come Along isn’t the worst each way bet at $20 here. He has a pattern of coming good third up from a spell, so despite him being beaten big margins in his first two runs back, he might be ready to do something now. His only start at the track and distance was a win and four of his five career wins have been on soft ground.

(3) Fantastic Baby looks ready for a race like this after six top-two finishes from as many career starts.

(1) Ashim was OK last start but I backed him that day and wasn’t desperate to do so again.

(3) Frosty Rocks looks to have been saved up for this. He’s got a good first up record and has been scratched from races in the past week or so to run here instead. Goes well in the ground and should be hard to beat.

(8) Dream Circle won his first two starts this prep before failing as a well-backed $3.40 chance last time out. Has been back to the trials and if you put a line through his last start, he looks a crazy price at $15. Drops from 94 grade back to 78 grade which is the class he won in this prep. Draws awkwardly in 11 but did win from this gate here at Rosehill first up.

(9) Bigboyroy should go well fresh.

Tip: (3) Frosty Rocks $3.00 TAB

Value: (8) Dream Circle $15 TAB

Betting Strategy: 1.5 units WIN Frosty Rocks, 0.5 units E/W Dream Circle

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
