Betting Preview and Leading Contenders

Autumn Glow — the dominant favourite

Autumn Glow is the headline attraction and arrives with three successive victories this preparation. She has the tactical speed to settle close from barrier two and receives 2kg from the older male runners. At $1.24, the market gives her an overwhelming chance, and it is difficult to construct a compelling case against her on exposed form. The issue is betting value: a minor tactical setback can make such a short win price unattractive.

Lindermann — likely leader and strongest upset chance

Lindermann won his latest start and has drawn three, giving Damian Lane a chance to control the tempo. If he secures an uncontested lead, he can turn the race into a dash from the 600m and force Autumn Glow to chase rather than simply dictate. His $11.00 quote makes him an interesting alternative, although beating the favourite still requires a significant performance.

Tom Kitten — Flemington mile specialist

Tom Kitten has won the past two All-Star Miles at Flemington over 1600m, a strong course-and-distance credential. He has finished third and second at his latest two starts, suggesting he is racing into form. Mark Zahra rides from barrier six. At $12.00 he is a logical exotics runner and an upset possibility if the race is run at a more genuine tempo than expected.

Buckaroo — reliable high-class opposition

Buckaroo ran second at Flemington last time and has the quality to feature again, though he has been finding it difficult to win this preparation. Ben Melham rides from barrier seven. His $14.00 price is reasonable for a horse capable of finishing strongly, but he may be giving the favourite a head start if the speed is moderate.

Another Wil, Sepals and the remainder

Another Wil was third last start and can race close enough to the speed to be involved at $23.00. Sepals has mixed recent form but is not without ability at $17.00. Pounding and Within The Law need considerable improvement on recent results, while El Soleado is a long-priced outsider.

Speed Map and Race Shape

Lindermann looks the most likely leader, with Another Wil and Autumn Glow able to settle in the first few. A moderate tempo is a realistic scenario in this nine-runner field. Autumn Glow’s barrier two and tactical versatility make it difficult for rivals to exploit race shape; those backing outsiders need the race to unfold differently from the market’s expectations.

Champions Mile 2026 Tips and Selections

Selection Horse Win Odds
1 8. Autumn Glow $1.24
2 2. Lindermann $11.00
3 1. Tom Kitten $12.00
4 3. Buckaroo $14.00

Our betting verdict: Autumn Glow ($1.24) is the clear win selection, but not an attractive standalone bet at the quote. Look to bundle with a couple of other options for a Quinella. Lindermann ($11.00) is the speculative upset/value option; there is no obligation to bet this race if the market stays this short.
