Betting Preview and Leading Contenders

Linebacker — the weight swing makes him a serious chance

Linebacker was beaten only a long neck by Declichy Boulevard in the Five Diamonds Prelude at Randwick over 1500m. He now meets that rival 2.5kg better on the weights, an important change as the pair stretch to 1800m. He was also third in the Alan Brown Stakes at Rosehill, giving him solid recent Sydney form. Zac Lloyd rides from barrier seven. At $5.00 he appeals as the preferred win bet, provided the soft track does not deteriorate further than expected.

Declichy Boulevard — favourite with the right recent form

Declichy Boulevard won the Five Diamonds Prelude and has drawn barrier five with Tommy Berry aboard. She carries 56kg, and her recent form suggests she is thriving at the right time. The $4.20 favourite deserves to head the market, but the weight swing against Linebacker means the Prelude result is not automatically repeatable. A more forward position from the favourable gate may offset some of that disadvantage.

Welcometotheshow — value in a genuinely open race

Welcometotheshow has finished third at his last two starts and was held up before running on in the Prelude. Craig Newitt rides from barrier nine, and at $9.00 he is an attractive each-way type if the race is run at a solid tempo. His ability to handle rain-affected going is a further positive given the early Soft 7 rating.

Verona Rose — consistent and stepping up in trip

Verona Rose has placed in all three starts this preparation and is drawn to enjoy a soft run from barrier three. Kerrin McEvoy rides at 56kg. The step to 1800m is the main unknown: she has the form to be competitive, but must prove she can sustain it over the longer journey. Her $7.00 quote is fair without being generous.

Evaporate, Tuxedo and Brindavan — the other major chances

Evaporate was seventh in the Prelude after sitting behind the speed, but barrier four and Nash Rawiller offer the prospect of a more favourable run. At $7.50 he can improve, though he needs to bounce back from two disappointing recent results. Tuxedo has been second at his past two starts and draws the inside, but will need a clean passage in a 14-runner field. Brindavan arrives in winning form and can contribute to the early speed from barrier eight; at $13.00 he has some appeal for wider exotics.

Plymouth and Zambardo — wider exotics

Plymouth has drawn barrier two and can hold a handy position, though recent fourth placings suggest he needs another step forward to win. Zambardo has been close up in his latest two runs and has experience on rain-affected ground. Both have the profile to finish in the first four without being clear top selections.

Speed Map and Race Shape

Brindavan and Evaporate are possible pace influences, with Plymouth and Verona Rose well drawn to secure handy positions. Linebacker should be able to settle in the first half without excessive work, while Declichy Boulevard can find cover from barrier five. The early Rosehill rating is Soft 7, and a rain-affected surface may increase the importance of an economical run and proven wet-track ability. Monitor track upgrades or downgrades.

Five Diamonds 2026 Tips and Selections

Selection Horse Win Odds
1 1. Linebacker $5.00
2 8. Declichy Boulevard $4.20
3 11. Welcometotheshow $9.00
4 7. Verona Rose $7.00

Our betting verdict: Linebacker at $5.00 is the preferred win bet, chiefly because of the 2.5kg swing against Prelude winner Declichy Boulevard. Welcometotheshow ($9.00) is the value each-way alternative, subject to the final track condition.
