Ascot Racing Tips: Saturday, March 20th

Surely, surely today is the day for (3) Pletto. She was good first up, had no luck second up and then had even less luck last start. She should have won at Bunbury, coming from last on the rail before being held up crucially half way down the straight. She was beaten 0.65L and I firmly believe she should have won. She gets a jockey change here with Brad Rawiller going on and draws barrier 1. Hopefully we see a bit of intent from the gate and then we just need some luck. The price is skinny enough given she’s going to be chasing down a couple of horses that will settle in front of her, but with even luck I think she wins.

(1) Scooter’s Machine looks the biggest danger to my eye. Interesting to see if they try and hold out Bruce Almighty for the lead or whether they are happy to take a sit.

Good little race this.

Looks a race between (1) Magical Dream and (2) Hot Zed. Magical Dream comes out of a Stakes race behind Kissonallforcheeks, which is a very good formline. Draws well in barrier 3 here and gets a handy claim for apprentice Laqdar Ramoly. She comes up against the in-form Hot Zed, who has won four straight now after a comfortable victory at Bunbury last start. They absolutely crawled in that race and he was able to dictate and kick away. I think this is a tougher assignment so I’m leaning to the filly, but if Hot Zed finds the front and walks, they’ll struggle to run him down.

(8) Standout Rose was a nice winner first up and should improve. Sneaky chance.

(11) Amasenus should have won first up and then bounced back with victory last start over this track and distance. She ran the fastest final 400m of the meeting in doing so. She draws wide again today but if they go quick and she can get a similar run into the race like she did last start, she’ll be hard to hold out again.

(8) Beau Zoom is first up without a trial here. Notably Chris Parnham chooses to stick with Amasenus rather than pilot Beau Zoom for his Dad, with brother Steven instead getting the ride.

(7) She’s Enchanted next best, while (2) Excaro on stable debut is an interesting runner.

Happy to sit out of this as there’s too many queries.

There looks a fair bit of speed here, including (3) Storm Whisper, who won by 6L on debut before running 2^nd to Policiere. Has won his trial leading into his return here and should go close.

Pinjarra Magic Millions winner (1) Ex Sport Man returns for the first time since that win. He’s had six weeks between runs with a trial in between. He may or may not need the run but he’s going to get a tempo to suit.

(4) Featherweight is another that will likely go forward and give a sight, while (5) Green And Shady can be thrown in at big odds on stable debut.

I’ve been on (2) That’s Funny Az in recent starts but I’m jumping off today with a drop in distance, rise in weight and negative jockey change all factors.

(8) Fangio was flying down in Albany leading into last start, where he was forced to sit three-wide the trip. He was brave in holding down 2^nd and the horse that ran 3^rd has since come out and won. With a better run in transit today, he’s going to be hard to beat.

(10) What About Moses is a good price at $8.00. He won two starts ago over this track and distance, where he beat Miss Marietta, who has since come out and won her next two. Forgive him for last start when he was caught wide on an unsuitable wet track. Back onto dry ground, with a bit more luck he should go close at $8.00.

(7) Sophie’s Song doesn’t win out of turn but she’s always very honest. She was good first up given she’s never run a place from five starts when fresh. She wasn’t beaten far despite sitting wide throughout and can improve today with that run under the belt.

Happy to have a decent crack at those three horses.

(1) Western Temple is absolutely flying this preparation, narrowly missing first up before bolting in last start at Bunbury. He won the Coolgardie Cup in Kalgoorlie third up last preparation, so he should prove hard to beat once again today.

(3) Dig Deep had no luck in that race Western Temple won last start. He was badly held up in the straight and should have finished much closer. He gets a positive draw today so should be able to land closer in the run and from there, he can be competitive.

I think the one at odds that’s ready to do something is (6) Media Baron, who warmed up nicely last start to record the fastest final 400, 600 and 800m of the race. Third up now, he can feature at double figures.

Super competitive race.

(3) Excellent Dream was caught three-wide the trip last start and battled on well to finish 3^rd. Prior to that he won consecutive races, so with Brad Rawiller back on and a soft draw, he should be able to bounce back.

(5) Jericho Missile was ahead of him in 2^nd last start, which was a good effort first up. He’s never finished out of the top two when second up from a spell, so with a bit of luck from the awkward draw, he can run a good race at double figure odds. Looks the value.

(8) Platinum Bullet should relish getting back up to 1200m and draws well in barrier 4. Simon Miller’s team is flying so she’ll be right in the finish.

(4) Charleton Eddie and (6) Position Of Power others to consider.

Loved the win of this filly (10) Pat’s Got Sass on debut. She’s a huge filly and has a massive stride on her, but she covers the ground nicely. From barrier 12 she should slide across to sit up on speed, and from there she will prove very hard to run down.

(4) Liwa was a super first up run and she backed that up with a big win last start, running down Pixie Chic in the Supremacy Stakes. She draws nicely here and the stable is flying, so she’ll be hitting the line hard once again.

Trevor Andrews has two chances in the race, (8) Sneaky Chance and (12) Story Brook. Both are roughies here but both have chances.

Very uninspiring race to close out the card, one for the stayers over 2200m.

(10) Interstate is the only horse I could really get near. He’s been around the mark in his past few starts and now steps up to 2200m and gets the bar shoe off his front foot. He could be ready to improve at double figure odds.
