It’s a nine-race card for the midweek racing today at Belmont in Perth.

For the first time in weeks, we’re back on a Good track after a break in the weather. The rail moves out 14m.

Not overly keen to get involved in the first race, with two horses both sharing the top of the market at 42.40.

(1) The Invisible Man has been good in his two runs to date, only run down very late last start. With the rail out 14m, he should be tough to chase down once again.

Adam Durrant has saddled up several debut winners in recent months and he has a first starter in the form of (11) Finest Clobber here. Comes out of a strong trial which produced Secret Deploy who won on debut, so no surprise to see him win this.

(10) Prince Ragnar looks very hard to beat here. He comes into this off a trial win, where he led all the way to beat Secret Deploy and Finest Clobber. Secret Deploy came out and won on debut, while Finest Clobber ran 3rd in the first race today. Prince Ragnar was under the whip in the trial but he did respond OK for pressure and the strength of the form out of the trial should make him very hard to hold out.

(3) Nobel Prince can be included at $21. Comes out of a decent form reference on debut and has won a trial leading into his return today. Stable going well.

(6) Rulelee was good on debut at Northam and can be competitive again today.

(8) Comanche Kat resumes from a 60-week spell and has trialled OK.

(7) Hardly Ever trialled like a gazelle back in March but was put away after that. Returned to the trials 10 days ago where she wasn’t anywhere near as dynamic, but she also wasn’t fully tested. The money has come for it and from this camp, that’s always a good lead.

(4) Stars Aplenty was well backed on debut at Pinjarra but didn’t fire. Blinkers go straight on and we’re getting $15 today so probably over the odds considering the SP on debut.

(1) Defending was only run down very late last start and with the rail out 14m today, should take some catching.

(9) Minno next best.

(6) Competitor resumes today and makes his stable debut for Michael Grantham, who has his stable going really well. The horse won first up in Esperence last prep and while that’s hardly any form for a metro race, it shows that he can fire fresh.

The money has come for (5) Mong Khon first up. Went close first up last prep so has to be respected.

Another one for the Michael Grantham train here with (7) Promission who resumes from a spell. Much like his stablemate in the previous race, this horse won first up last preparation. Has placed in all three starts when fresh and has been somewhat competitive in this grade before, so happy to spec at the $21.

Plenty of other chances in an open race.

No bet here, with several of these runners going from a wet track back to firm ground today, which can see some big form reversals.

(8) Smashing is favourite dropping back to a Class 1, which she really should be wining, but I’m not convinced at all she should be $2.40.

(5) The White Witch was very heavily backed first up but failed to handle the track conditions so she is one that could turn her form around.

(7) Nobellity is ready now third up from a spell.

(13) Port Beach not completely hopeless at $71.

Going to try my hand with three at good odds here, currently $7, $12 and $21.

(5) Call Again just wasn’t suited at all first up, having to chase the tearaway leader Elafella, who led by about 6L and kept going. Not ideal for a horse to resume over 1400m and do that work, but hopefully that toughens him up and brings him on for this race today. He’s got a good second up record, winning easily at Bunbury second up last prep. Might be in need of a bit more ground but he finds a suitable race.

(4) Trump This is very likely to be last in running. This horse just leaves itself way too much to do with its racing pattern. Often out of sight at the 400m before flashing home. Has placed in six of eight starts when first up though, and gets the bar plates off today.

(2) Indominus is way over the odds. Always needs the run first up but improves second up. Last prep ran 7th of 10 first up before finishing 2nd second up. Struck a heavy track first up this time in so should improve sharply back onto firm gorund.

Really ugly race to get involved in, a 2100m Class 1 with a very long tail.

(3) Axel ‘R’ Eight went close on his return to the races last start, beaten 0.02L. Should improve with the run under the belt, has won on good ground, has won over 2000m, draws well, will be on speed and should be hard to run down.

Really only two I’m interested in here.

(3) Thrilled was ridden dead cold last start and ran the fastest final 400m of the entire meeting when closing into 3rd. Pike goes on today, the horse went close second up last prep and with any luck should be going close.

Think today is the day for (9) Mickey Blue Eyes. Trialled well but struck a heavy track first up behind the flying Wilchino. Back on firm ground, blinkers back on, expecting this is a race he can be very competitive in.

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
