The market looks wrong here. (2) The Gauch looks a good price 2nd up. He’s unbeaten 2nd up and at 1200m, and just two runs ago he did knock off Pintoff who has since won a group 3 at this T/D. He gets a lovely map from barrier 4 and gets a lot in his favour.

(3) Faretti will either lead or sit OSL. The first up win was good against Our Wind Spirit, who ties in through this Saturday bm78 grade easily. Doubt he cops much pressure and at double figures he’s a bet.

(4) Hela was beating up on some average horses in Tasmania before coming to South Australia and failing in the Australasian Oaks, finishing last. No doubt she’s talented, but 1200m is very short and first up as favourite she looks easy to be against.

(11) Pride Of Jenni has that strange 3yo but does race well at 1400m and gets a very soft run from barrier 2.

Tip: (2) The Gauch- $4.80 at Sportsbet

Value: (3) Faretti- $11.00 at Bet365

Betting Strategy: 1.5 units WIN The Gauch, 0.5 units WIN Faretti

(4) Pandemic has a very good fresh record, the only miss coming in a strong race behind Villami. I think 1100m is his ideal trip, he has won at listed level here at Caulfield, and I think the lack of speed on paper can actually be in his favour, because he easily has the best turn of foot in the race, and if he can produce his last 600m from striking distance, he probably wins.

(5) Wisdom Of Water was good first up in the McEwen Stakes without heaps of luck. His best is good enough to win this, and I think they’ll be a bit more positive than last start without much speed engaged.

(2) Athiri is a classy mare but she didn’t fire last prep, her best run 3rd up at Eagle Farm when 2.1L off Exhilarates. Not sure where she’s at but Olly on instead of Pandemic is interesting.

(7) He’s A Balter won well last start but this is harder.

Tip: (4) Pandemic- $4.40 at Sportsbet

Betting Strategy: 1 unit WIN Pandemic

(1) Heresy comes out of the best form race behind Bruckner and Artorius where she got up the inside and ran 3rd. She steps to 1400m for the first time which is a small query, and she’s short enough in the market but deserves to be favourite.

(10) Daisies is a bet at the price. She comes out of a very strong maiden at Mornington won by Frontman who I think is a pretty handy horse. They went quite fast in that maiden and came home strongly well, and Daisies was the best closer in the race on debut, running the 3rd fastest last 400m of the meeting behind Zion. She looks suited to 1400m and with race experience she can run a big race at $23.

(3) Morioka is coming off a $1.90 SP against the older bm72 horses in Sydney. Not sure how well that measures up but Willo on for Waller, she has to be respected.

Tip: (10) Daisies- $23.00/4.80 at TAB

(2) Lightsaber is completely ready to win and avoided the Exford Plate for this, which looks very suitable. He worked through the line very well behind Bruckner and Artorius last start, and now up in trip he can go forward and settle outside the leader. He’s already a group 2 winner at 1400m and I’m surprised he isn’t shorter.

(1) Alpine Edge comes down from QLD having won easily first up and running a narrow 2nd when wide to Startantes, who has won again since over Prince Of Boom. Don’t think 1400m will be an issue.

(9) Riverplate was scratched from Wednesday for this after a big maiden run first up in Aus. Should measure up.

(8) Timson was a huge win at Casterton on debut when charging late from a long way back.

Plenty of speed here. (2) Starry Legend is very quick early over the 1000m. He bolted in his first two starts, admittedly over average opposition, but from barrier 3 likely holds the front.

(3) Ranveer ran 2nd to Profiteer on debut which reads very well and was too strong on a heavy track first up last prep, which may not have been suitable. He’s jumped out very well for this, but I don’t know where he gets to on the map with so much speed drawn inside him.

(1) General Beau drops back to 1000m which probably suits, because I don’t think he runs 1200m. He might be behind a few in the run despite his early speed.

(5) Forbes is very talented and probably threw away a win against Anamoe on debut. He’s a bit of a headcase though and often misses the jump in trials.

Tip: (3) Ranveer- $5.50 at TopSport

(3) Annavisto clearly looks the horse to beat, and the most likely winning chance on the day. I had her as a horse to follow first up where she chased the hot speed set by Turaath, just missing and costing herself a touch, which she can do. Turaath has since won at group 2 level, so clearly the form stacks up, and she gets a beautiful map from barrier 5. Looks the clear best of the day.

(7) Snickerdoodledandy went through the line well in the Cockram behind Probabeel. She’s much better suited at 1400m and the win at Flemington in a bm84 last prep was very good, but she’ll have to give Annavisto a decent head start.

(6) Good And Proper wasn’t far off Annavisto first up but did stat $18 there and had her chance, so I’d suggest it’s unlikely she turns the tables, unless she gets all favours from barrier 1.

(5) Ecumenical won well first up in Adelaide and measures up against these.

(11) Nonconformist comes out of the Feehan, which could be the stronger lead up. He sat 3 wide on speed there and was only beaten 0.7L by Superstorm, who would be a short favourite here. He’s a frustrating horse but clearly has talent, gets to 2000m, 3rd up, draws a better barrier, and drops to 55.5kg which looks a very attractive weight. It’s D-Day.

(12) Grand Promenade looks the value at odds. I loved the first up run behind Pancho in a brutally run race, doing a bit of work early and holding down 2nd. That should bring him on nicely for this and whilst he’s probably targeting a Bart Cummings, he’s a hard horse to knock for the Maher Eustace stable.

(4) Delphi stuck on very well in the Heatherlie in a race where nothing changed. Getting to 2000m is going to suit and he’s a live chance.

(13) No Effort is very hard to knock as a mare in form who loves Caulfield and makes her own luck.

Incredibly open mare’s race but I think (8) Miss Albania is overs at double figures. She was absolutely no hope after 50m last start after missing the start. Key to note she’s been very well backed at every start this prep, and Riordan back on who knows her very well should help. 1200m is a query but she’s rock hard fit, settles likely outside lead and is hard to knock.

(13) Enchantingly has been very impressive her last two in Adelaide, the latest by 7.5L with a big last 600m. This is obviously much tougher but she’s adaptable and maps well.

(5) Night Raid had no luck first up last prep in the Typhoon Tracy and maps well from barrier 4.

(3) Bella Nipotina is flying for the new stable and was blocked for a run last start behind Express Pass.

Tip: (8) Miss Albania- $9.50 at Bet365

Betting Strategy: 0.5 units WIN Miss Albania

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
