Keen on the Waller runner (2) Masaff, who absolutely bolted in to win his first start in Queensland. It was only a lowly Class 1 at Ipswich, but his winning time was 0.77sec (4.5L) quicker than the BM78 over the same distance on the day. When these Waller runners come to Queensland and strike winning form, they often keep it and from the low draw, he should be very competitive.

(4) Prince Of Arragon has been super impressive this preparation, winning three from three. He saluted over 2000m at Doomben last start and while he drops back to 1800m today, he has to be a leading chance.

(11) Incentivise is another that has won his past three starts, with his latest win at Toowoomba being by 7L. All three of those have been on soft ground though, and he drops from 2150m to 1800m.

(9) Volcanic Rock looks the one to beat after a good effort first up behind Overmann in Sydney. He was entered in a race at Rosehill but they’ve elected to come here instead. He should jump and lead from barrier 4 and will take plenty of beating.

(3) Minto’s Paradise bumped into the very smart Maotai on debut and then took care of his rivals with ease at his second start. I think the Maotai form is obviously very strong and at $13 he looks a bit of value here.

(8) London Bell was well supported at odds on debut and ran on OK into 5th behind Minto’s Paradise. Drawn the inside and gets Kerrin McEvoy on board here so has claims.

(5) Tutukaka next best.

This race might be out of the class of (6) Colpo Di Tamburo but I don’t think he’s hopeless at $31. He ran well first up on the Gold Coast, sitting four-wide the trip with the apprentice on board and still managing to run 2nd. He has a good second up record, with two wins and two 2nds from eight starts. Yet to figure from four starts at Eagle Farm but he draws well and looks a knockout chance.

(8) Tumbler Ridge also isn’t a bad price at $8.00. He won over the mile two starts ago at Doomben before finishing 4th behind Private Eye in the Queensland Guineas last start. The form out of that race has been very good, with Kukeracha since winning the Derby and Apache Chase beating Ayrton last weekend. He’s been freshened up and drops back to the 1300m here. He has a good record at this distance, won his only start at this track and distance and getting back onto a firmer surface also looks a positive.

(5) Bold Style ran really well last weekend and almost made it in my ‘horses to follow’ file. He settled back in the field and worked home well without a lot of clear room.

(4) Macewen loves it here at Eagle Farm.

Keen to be with (5) Boomtown Lass here. We saw Profit win first up last weekend from this stable and Boomtown Lass looks to have been set for this fresh. Her first up record is outstanding, with two wins and four 2nd placings from six starts. She only has the one win from 10 starts at Eagle Farm, but she has placed in six of those. Her only start at this track and distance was a 0.1L 2nd to Usmanov, who she meets again here and he comes up favourite. However, Boomtown Lass has a 2.5kg weight swing on him from that meeting. Not thrilled with the jockey booking but with any luck from the draw, I think she’ll go extremely close here.

(1) Usmanov appreciated the drop in grade last start, returning to Queensland with a win in the Bat Out Of Hell. No doubt he’ll be competitive.

(6) Hail Manhattan finished last campaign with three straight wins. 1000m likely to be too short for him but he does go well fresh and gets the blinkers on for the first time.

(7) Doctor Zous and (8) Snow Valley also chances.

Think (3) Scallopini is a decent each way bet here at $12. He didn’t come up at his best last preparation but if you ignore that, his form prior to that campaign would see him go well here. He has a terrific first up record, with four wins and two placings from eight starts, and he’s never missed a place from six starts at the track and distance. Draws well in barrier 3 and looks a good bet at the price.

(8) Varda was enormous winning over 1100m at Doomben last start, coming from nearly last to win. Has a good third up record and should go well again.

(4) Baller won his first start for Tony Gollan last start. Four of his five career wins have come at this distance so he has to be included again.

(6) Stampe has had excuses in his past two starts, caught wide without cover in both. Drawn well today and can go better than the double figure odds suggest.

(1) Splintex is favourite and comes up with barrier 1. Finished midfield behind Eduardo in the G1 Doomben 10,000 last start so should find this easier, but I thought he was short enough and happy to oppose.

(6) Charleise is flying this prep. She bolted in at Sandown three starts back, before running into Bons Abroad who then won again. Last start she went to Sydney and once again won easily over this distance. The draw likely means she’s going to be a long way back in the run, but if they are able to make ground during the day, she should be flashing home late.

(10) Fort Wayne is a blowout chance. Probably outclassed here but did run well first up and is undefeated from two starts when second up. Something small on at huge odds.

(5) Le Castille makes her Australian debut. Has some talent but comes here out of form. Blinkers off, back onto firmer ground and drawn well. Worth including at big odds.

(1) Groundswell comes up favourite. He won back-to-back races in Adelaide before failing in the G3 BRC Sprint last start. No surprise to see them lead here with Nash booked but I thought he was short enough on the back of that last run.

Could make a genuine case for six or seven runners here.

(1) Nettoyer will be suited in a WFA fillies and mares race after finishing 4th behind Zaaki in the G1 Doomben Cup, but she was still beaten 10L there and is a hard horse to catch.

(2) Polly Grey is flying, winning three of her past four races, but the key to her is striking wet tracks, which she won’t get here. She’s had nine runs on good ground and is yet to win.

(3) Rocha Clock is also in great form, winning her past two. She draws wide here but she tends to get back in her races anyway. She beat Nudge two starts ago, who then came to Brisbane and won, and she beat the in-form Missile Mantra last time out. If she doesn’t get too far out of her ground, she should be very competitive.

(4) In Good Health will lead at a good clip. They let her roll along last start and she just ran her opposition off her legs, winning by 4L in Adelaide. Drops back to the mile here which probably suits her high cruising speed.

(5) Nudge had been knocking on the door in Sydney and she got a deserved win last start, finishing over the top of her rivals in the Pam O’Neill. The race was completely set up for her though, with Bowman taking off mid-race on Yamazaki to inject plenty of speed into it. If In Good Health sets a good tempo, Nudge will be finishing hard once again.

(6) Fabric was disappointing last start but I’m not convinced wet tracks are her go. All her best form (and all six career wins) has been on firmer surfaces so that could be the key to her bouncing back here. Reloaded has also franked the form out of that race.

(12) Purrfect Deal is the complete blowout in the field.

Will be backing three runners in an open race: Rocha Clock, Nudge and Fabric.

The day’s feature is the G1 Queensland Oaks for the three-year-old fillies over 2200m. Keen on two runners here and have made them my best of the day.

(1) Duais went into my ‘horses to follow’ file after her effort in the Australian Oaks behind Hungry Heart, with the thought that she may end up in South Australia or Queensland for a race like this. She came from last on that occasion and didn’t get the clearest of runs in the straight, but still finished off well to run 2nd. I think that’s probably the best form line for this race and despite the wide draw, I’m keen to be with her.

I was with (6) Grace And Harmony in The Roses last start and I’ll be sticking with her for the grand final today. She drew wide, ended up back in the field and JMac tried to loop them, but the race was dominated by horses that settled closer to the speed. He comes up with barrier 3 today so expect a much more positive ride from that gate, and I think that could be the difference. Think she’s the best of the Waller brigade and the good draw just reinforces that.

Both of them are backable at $5.50 apiece.

Waller has six in the race, so it’s anyone’s guess which ones fill the placings behind the two mentioned above.

Keen to oppose (3) Bargain who hasn’t been running poorly by any stretch, but has certainly had her chances from good draws and I don’t think this is any easier.

Tip: (6) Grace And Harmony $5.50 PlayUp

(5) Our Playboy went into the ‘horses to follow’ file after his first up run. That was his first start as a gelding, he settled back in the field and worked home nicely to finish midfield, beaten 1.8L. Should take good improvement from that run and happy to have something on at each way odds.

(12) Georgie’s Pride is the other horse I’ll be backing. It’s hard to knock her form, with five wins and a 2nd from six starts this preparation. She’s won five from seven at the track, three from four at this track and distance, and with any luck going forward from the wide gate, she should be very hard to beat once again.

(3) Mass Destruction and (11) Kisukano obvious chances.

Tip: (12) Georgie’s Pride $3.50 Bet365

Also Backing: (5) Our Playboy $7.00 Bet365

Betting Strategy: 2 units WIN Georgie's Pride, 1 unit WIN Our Playboy

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
