Today we head to Eagle Farm for eight races ranging from maidens to a pretty competitive BM78. ‘The Horse’ has found the better bets on the program.

Today we head to Eagle Farm for eight races ranging from maidens to a pretty competitive BM78. ‘The Horse’ has found the better bets on the program including Race 1, Race 3, Race 5 and Race 6.

(2) Bustedup was super impressive last start giving his competitors a good old-fashioned toweling. The race was in Rockhampton and the quality of the field may not have been that strong, but he absolutely belted them by 7 lengths—and Justin Stanley didn’t even make much of an effort to push him along (easing up in fact). Despite that, he peeled off a 34.17 over the final 600 metres. He has more to give, and a repeat performance would see him winning again. Unfortunately for the punters, you’re getting $1.70 to get involved. But considering it’s a 5-horse field, it’s not terrible.

Next best is (4) Georgie’s Pride.

Another smallish field with only 6 runners, and (1) Spinning Spirit gets a nice opportunity to post another winner. Returning first-up she missed the start and began at the back of the field. She recovered along the fence to transit behind the leader and the subsequent winner Trengganu (who is pretty handy). She actually closed on and headed Trengganu only to miss the win by 0.1 lengths. A repeat performance of that run, with an even start, is good enough to win this. If she can maximise the inside draw, she will be extremely tough to beat.

Can’t ignore Tony Gollan when we’re in this part of the country, so (6) Zoofari is the next pick.

Chris Waller has a racing footprint comparable to an environmental footprint of a Boeing 747—despite heading north we find another competitive runner for the stable in (1) Fairy Me Home. First-up he came 4^th in a field of 6 in a BM78 with James McDonald on board. Tracking mid-field the entire trip he closed off well, looking somewhat likely, only to run out of steam. He was beaten by Couldn’t Refuse who closed more impressively. It was a better quality race than this, and today he drops in grade, gets Ron Stewart in the saddle, brings additional fitness, but stays at the same distance (a positive).

(4) Daulat Tai Panaziz should find this easier also, while (2) Brook Hill can improve.

This is pretty open affair and the market reflects the story. (8) Evita La Vie started averagely last start, but let-down to storm home only missing the win by the barest of margins. She was being hard-ridden by Jag Guthman-Chester a long way out, and although she was green moving around the track, she had plenty to offer. It was quite an amazing run really, and she could have easily finished in the last few after working so hard so early. If she gets a good (and easier) run in transit she is going to let-down well. Considering she has the wide draw, we can expect a back position. She was around $10.00 which was a great each way punt, but she has since found support.

(5) Zounate has been close multiple times without winning and can improve, although the field looks slightly tougher than others she hasn’t prevailed against.

The Horse

The Horse found the thought of placing bets and drinking beers much more appealing once he was married, and that led to an interest in the many intricacies of The Great Game. He enjoys the challenge of predicting what will happen in any given race, but also loves horses themselves, none more so than the mighty mudlark Jungle Edge. His focus lies on metropolitan racing in Victoria and NSW, however isn’t afraid to find one out wide. Away from racing, The Horse is an avid drummer – quite a difficult task with a set of hooves.
