Flemington Racing Tips: Saturday, March 19th

Billy Bestford previews every race on a cracking day of racing at Flemington.

Degraves-Flemington

It’s another huge day at Flemington today with a big nine race card, headlined by the running of the All Star Mile.

The track is currently rated a good 4 with the rail out 8 metres. Fine and sunny conditions are expected and we should see perfect racing conditions.

Billy Bestford has once again cast his eye across the whole meeting and brings you his free race by race preview, best bets and value bets to help you find some winners this Saturday.

(8) Oh So Far has really found her form this time in and was desperately unlucky not to win again last start. She charged through once in clear there and she will enjoy this extra 100m. Getting a big drop in the weights will be a big positive, dropping 5.5kg for this.

(1) Through Irish Eyes is ready now and will love rising significantly in distance. Onto a dry track is another big tick for him and he can regain best form now.

(6) Uniquely is another horse who is flying and has been super consistent this prep. If she handles this trip then she will be a big chance.

(2) French Moon is front-running and has been in winning form lately. Will be the one they’ll have to run down.

(1) Express Pass was an enormous first up run, flying home behind Malkovich and Brooklyn Hustle. As soon as she crossed the line there I was keen to follow wherever she went text. She’ll improve plenty off that run, has a good 2nd up record and is proven up the straight.

(7) Miss Albania has looked really sharp at a couple of jump outs and she is super speedy. She’s having her first start for the new stable today and wouldn’t shock me to see her run really well down in the weights.

(3) Lombardo flies fresh and is a speedster out of the gates. He can run quick time on his day. Slight concern up the straight but on best form he’s right up to it.

(5) Sword Of Mercy has the benefit of race fitness with two good runs under the belt this prep. She loves this track/trip.

(1) Yonce gets in here so well at the weights and gets a weight swing in favour on Groovy Kinda Love form their last meeting. Get the feeling she is going to love 2000m and she is just bulletproof. Unbeaten through five starts now and get the feeling we’re only just scratching the surface with her. She will be winning but she’s currently Winx odds.

(6) Groovy Kinda Love looks desperate to get out to this trip now and has been charging home last couple starts. This is easier than last week and you have to respect the stable backing her up. On sheer price alone I could speck her.

(1) Daily Bugle has been competitive enough in much better races than this and he can run well getting up to the mile now. He was solid enough fresh behind Overpass and can bounce back in a race like this. Map is the only knock.

(4) Pounding is super genuine and looked good winning when stepping up to this trip for the first time last start. Will get a nice run in transit from barrier 1 and will be doing best work late.

(8) Chateau Nue is still very lightly raced with just two starts to his name. Was only run down late by Pounding last time out.

(2) Teewaters could be ready to go to the next level now after a good debut prep. Ran 3rd to Hitotsu and Alegron last start!

Plenty to like about the last start win of (8) Vasmee who bolted in by the tune of 6.5L. There were post race issues two back which was his only flop this prep. He’s won his other three in good fashion so is clearly going well. He’s an exciting horse for the stable, will put himself up on speed and will enjoy getting up to 1600m now.

(2) Prince Of Helena looks hardest to beat off the back of a good first up performance. Super consistent horse who hasn’t missed the trifecta in his last 7 starts. Will like getting to the mile now.

(5) Glassey Miss is another super honest horse who doesn’t know how to run a bad race. Will roll forward on pace and give a strong kick.

(14) Jazz Star looks the one at big odds who can give this a shake.

There’s been plenty said in the lead up to this year’s All Star Mile and it looks a reasonably strong field overall.

(2) Zaaki gets a big weight swing on the horse that beat him last start in Inspirational Girl and looks to have come back in terrific order. He’s a genuine star and is probably the best horse in this field. If he’s fine staying at 1600m then I don’t think they’ll beat him.

Disappointed (1) I’m Thunderstruck has drawn the inside gate otherwise I’d be super keen on him! Will still have something on because he’s a much better horse on the big Flemington track and has been set for this race a long way out. 3rd up he is ready to let rip – any luck and I think he goes very close.

(14) Lightsaber was a really nice run last start in the Aus Guineas. He was only nabbed late by Hitotsu and considering Pinstriped is a third of his price here, I think he looks overs. Flemington mile is his go.

(15) Pinstriped no doubt has the most upside here and I doubt we have seen the best of him yet. Luckless in the Guineas but has been flying and draws perfect today. He’s just a tad short for mine at the current $6.

(10) Tofane rises to the mile for this and almost knocked Incentivise off over this trip last prep. He’s come back very well and will put himself in the race up near the speed.

(12) Inspirational Girl was a good winner last start, pipping Zaaki in the shadows of the post. Gets up in the weights now but she’s unbeaten over four goes at the mile.

(9) Bermadez won at this track/trip when 2nd up last campaign and his return this prep was extremely impressive. Chased down Rose Quartz who was flying and will only be better stepping up significantly to the mile now.

(4) Cherry Tortoni is a good chance to regain best form now getting to the Flem mile. This is where he does his best work and he has closed off well in both starts this prep. Ready to win now.

Don’t need me to tell you how well (10) Gentleman Roy is going at the moment. His record is outstanding, winning four of his last six and running 2nd in those two misses. He rolls to the lead and will once again be tough to catch.

(3) Mandela Effect might be able to spring a surprise at odds. Was a certainty beat last start in Tassie and has been super consistent this prep. Back onto a big track will suit him and his best form could see him figure.

(6) Don’t Doubt Dory is a genuine fresh horse winning 3 of 4. He’s super honest and Hefel knows this horse extremely well.

Think (6) Grandslam could be the one here rising straight to 2000m here 2nd up. Was never going to be in the hunt first up but finished off well and he generally goes well with a run under the belt. Had been off the scene for a while and I think we will see sharp improvement here today.

(8) Desert Icon has been racing consistently and is in career-best form. Was run down late by Defibrillate after making an early move last start. Maps for every favour today and you can’t knock the way he’s going.

(1) Defibrillate was a good winner first up as mentioned and 2nd up record is even better. Clearly come back well.

I like (4) Pondus getting to 2000m now and wasn’t helped by the lack of tempo in the Blamey first up. Will take big improvement from that and can bounce back.

(7) Rocket Tiger is an interesting runner resuming today. He showed plenty of ability as a 2yo, almost knocking off Home Affairs first up in that prep. He then was solid in a Golden Slipper. Been off the scene for a long time but recent trial was good enough and if he can produce that 2yo form then he is right in this.

(11) La Vina flies fresh and recently bolted in a trial. Probably wants it a touch wetter but she can run a big race.

(5) Paperboy is consistent and has been racing really well for the new stable. He’ll enjoy getting back to 1200m and has liked racing closer to the speed of late.

(6) Tapn ‘n’ Run another who is an interesting horse bringing different formlines. Was unlucky not to win last start. Back to 1200m might be key.

(13) Moeen could improve at first run for new stable.

Chances don’t end there!

Billy has been an avid racing fan ever since he and a few mates started a punters club once they turned 18. Following the initial punters clubs, he was properly hooked after landing a nice collect on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and has had a soft spot for Japanese horses ever since. Is a massive fan of 'blinkers first time' and has been known to enjoy a 'Hail Mary' multi. Loves punting across metro Sydney and Melbourne every Saturday but isn't scared to venture West late in the day to find a Pikey special.
