The market and jockey bookings suggest that (2) Deep Force is the horse to beat from the McEvoy camp, but I actually thought stablemate (1) Frankie Pinot brought the better form here. He strung a couple of wins together, including a handy performance in a class 1 at Geelong, beating Fender Bender, who ran well in stakes grade the start after. Frankie Pinot then stepped up to 1700m in a decent bm70, but I don’t think he ran the trip out when beaten 2 lengths. He still finished close up to strong Melbourne midweek horses, and he drops back to the 1550m here. They’ve opted to claim 2kg off, but he should get a cosy run from barrier 1 and have a head start on Deep Force. With a good ride I thought Frankie Pinot could bounce back to form here, and the jockey booking will ensure we get a decent price over the stablemate.

Looking to get the favourite beat again here. I’ve got no real knock on (6) Dazzling Damsel other than the price and perhaps the barrier. She was good last start without a whole lot of luck, but at the prices I’d rather side with (2) Whykayoh. He’d been taking on strong races in Melbourne before dropping back to 1200m in a bm64 here last start and was clearly unsuited over the 6 furlongs, working home steadily for 4^th as the $3.40 favourite. He’s much better suited at 1400m, a distance he ran over 4 starts back at Geelong. He put in a huge effort with top weight there, sitting 3 wide no cover the trip and fighting on for 3^rd behind a handy horse in Night Guy, who came out and ran 2^nd to Groundswell at his next start. Whykayoh will get back from barrier 8 but should be hitting the line strongly and if the favourite is held up from the inside, I like Whykayoh’s chances of causing the upset.

For the third time today I’m siding with apprentice Jessica Eaton, riding for the McEvoy camp, which is fine by me because she’s flying of late, riding at 18% for her last 50. She’s going at 44.2% POT for SA metro races this season, and I think she’s a chance of riding a winner at double figures here in the form of (8) You Hadme At Hello.

This mare is racing very well this time in, finishing 2^nd first up after racing wide without cover from back in the field. Eaton atoned for the defeat with a strong win last start as the $2.05 favourite, working early to find the lead and racing keenly as a result, but the mare kept kicking to win by a length over (4) Wylie Ol’ Coyote, who started $10 and made up ground to finish 2^nd.

You Hadme At Hello was comfortably holding him on the line in my opinion. Wylie Ol’ Coyote gets a 1.5kg weight swing, but going off their SP’s last start, I cannot fathom how You Hadme At Hello is $21 and Wylie Ol’ Coyote is $4.

The other horse that looks a good price is (2) Renegade, also for the McEvoy camp with Vorster on board. He was well beaten at Flemington three starts back behind Challiot and Titan Blinders when clearly out of his grade, but ran a great race two starts ago, racing wide and rearwards but finishing 2^nd to The Difference, who is a good horse and finished 3^rd in a strong bm90 at Flemington on Cup Day. Renegade stepped back up to 1400m last start and was far too strong as the $2.70 favourite. He draws nicely in barrier 3 here and looks a big chance at $6.

Good race here and a strong way to finish the card. The big advantage (10) Mrs Hyde here is her racing pattern. She’s only had 6 starts and has won 3 of them, including a dominant win on resumption when leading all the way on the Parks track. This is a much tougher race, but she draws perfectly in barrier 2 and will carry just 51kg, which is a whopping 10kg less than (1) Star Hills. He’s a hard horse to knock and has put up a picket fence of late. He does jump 6.5kg in weight and will need a good ride from a slightly awkward barrier in 8.

The other thing I find interesting is when Star Hills met (4) Lakhani Rose, he started $71 and finished 3^rd, with Lakhani Rose starting $4.80 and finishing 2^nd. Lakhani Rose was an impressive winner first up over 1100m, coming from last to get up on the line. She has won over 1050m, but she just gives herself a lot to do giving her racing pattern, and from barrier 4 in a field of 10, she’ll need an outstanding ride to run down Mrs Hyde who could well be 10 lengths in front of her around the bend.

I’m happy to side with the leader coming off a career best win with no weight.
