Jessica Eaton stays on (3) Baraconi who has been competing against some handy horses in BM66 grade at Morphettville. Last start the Nicconi filly won, while three back she placed behind Alleboom. Today she gets the inside draw which should bode well considering the amount of speed expected in the race (albeit a small field). Eaton should be able to save some ground along the inside and then hold them up before making it a test to the finish.

Outside of her, (2) Outlaws Revenge looks to be on the up, while (8) Exalted Fire at $34 is the long-shot carrying 51kg after the claim.

The two in the market (1) here Comes Lenni & (6) Magnetic Edge faced off last time, and Lenni got the spoils. Magnetic Edge was a touch unlucky and should have finished closer, so I think the tables can be turned. Add the weight differential after last start, and you can understand the support for the Hickmott gelding.

Of the rest (7) Meadows Young Buck looks in with a chance.

Jessica Eaton is looking for (1) Lake’s Folly to make it two in a row. He is arguably the best horse in the race, and he drops down in grade but gets punished with weight (going from 53.5kg last start to 60kg). Eaton gets the claim which helps. But he does normally excel first-up, and then drops off second-up. The draw is not ideal, so he has me looking elsewhere.

It wouldn’t take much for (3) Viduka to turn things around. Unlucky last start, but racing consistently, he also drops down in grade after consecutive places in better races. Alan Kelly claims 3kgs, he has early speed to overcome the wide gate, and at $10.00 on the exchange (and around $8.50 everywhere else) he looks a pretty good each-way bet.

If you’re looking for one to simply build the bank account, than include (4) Sizzlefly from the Stokes stable. He won a trial before coming second first-up behind Terbium at Gawler in a BM82. An overall record of 15 starts for 5 wins; he does know how to find the line. Kayla Crowther is riding well. He is a little under the odds, so hopefully there is a drift, considering the third place getter in the last start was (1) Irish Mint who is around $14. Overall he looks to be the best bet on the program.

(2) Lil Kontra could be the danger.

The favourite in the market (10) Hearty Lass looks well placed, despite being up in grade, to make it back-to-back wins. Last start the Wandjina mare won at Caulfield over 1440 metres beating Brazen Song. She has had 17 starts for 5 wins, and gets the comfortable inside gate. It could get sticky with pace drawn immediately outside her, but if ridden sensibly the one back along the inside looks to be the peach spot.

The threats look to be (8) Renegade and the veteran (5) Jester Halo.

The Horse

The Horse found the thought of placing bets and drinking beers much more appealing once he was married, and that led to an interest in the many intricacies of The Great Game. He enjoys the challenge of predicting what will happen in any given race, but also loves horses themselves, none more so than the mighty mudlark Jungle Edge. His focus lies on metropolitan racing in Victoria and NSW, however isn’t afraid to find one out wide. Away from racing, The Horse is an avid drummer – quite a difficult task with a set of hooves.
