(3) Boom Boom Basil hasn’t faced a heavy track before but has showed plenty of talent with three wins from six starts. Two of those have been first up and off two winning trials he looks ready to go here.

(14) Sparring belted his opposition on debut at Albury before being competitive in metropolitan grade in Melbourne. Comes to a Highway race in Sydney now and would only have to handle the heavy ground to be very competitive.

Stablemates (1) Mr Hussil and (17) Cracking Mo can go well for trainer Cameron Crockett.

(4) French Bonnet looks a good value play here. Disappointing first up but she put in a similar performance first up last preparation before coming out and winning second up. She’s undefeated at her second run back so we could see sharp improvement today with each way odds available.

(11) Contributing Factor nearly should have won last start and wasn’t bad the start prior either. Now gets Bowman on.

(15) Mahagoni was good on his Australian debut and can improve.

(4) Straight Arron was dominant in the Carbine Club Stakes as our best bet of the day last start, coming from back in the field to sail home over the top. He’ll be back in a similar spot from barrier 14 today so will need to be good again but the way he finished off over a mile last start suggests the 2000m won’t be an issue. Should be very hard to beat again.

Just a field of six for the Group 1 Champagne Stakes.

(5) Fireburn has taken all before her since her debut, collecting the Sweet Embrace, Golden Slipper and Sires’ Produce in the process. She now steps up to the mile as the raging favourite for the Champagne and if she repeats her recent performances she’ll win again.

(2) Williamsburg comes off consecutive victories, the latest being over this track and distance on heavy ground, so he’s already ticked the mile box.

(6) She’s Extreme ran 2nd to Fireburn last start and should be thereabouts again.

I think (2) Espiona is the most likely winner here but I wouldn’t be diving into the $1.90 after a couple of disappointing efforts this preparation. She will find this significantly easier than what she’s been racing against and Waller will have her ready to bounce back or he wouldn’t run, but with the price she is at the moment I’m happy to watch.

(6) Comrade Rosa might be able to settle closer to the pace today from the inside gate which helps her chances.

Another short-priced favourite here with (3) Big Parade finding a nice race after his brave effort in the Group 1 The Galaxy first up, where he was run down in the final strides by Shelby Sixtysix. He excels in the wet and has a terrific second up record so if he holds his form he should be winning.

(1) Kementari won first up last prep and goes well on rain-affected ground so he should give a good sight fresh today.

(2) Gem Song won well first up – probably finds this a bit tougher but does have a good second up record.

(9) Fituese the roughie.

(2) Polly Grey finds her race today, in my opinion. Relishes these heavy tracks and is at her best over this distance. Went very close behind Mount Popa last start, Bowman goes back on today and she’s ready to win.

(7) Marroni ran 3rd behind Mount Popa and Polly Grey in that same race last start after sitting three-wide for a good part of the race. Brave effort and with a better run today can figure in the finish again.

(1) Icebath is knocking on the door after consecutive placings in the Doncaster and Queen Of The Turf. Down in grade today but carries top weight at her first attempt at the distance.

(3) Numerian the roughie.

(1) Mo’unga was very brave in the Futurity Stakes behind Sierra Sue, defying the pattern of the day to finish 2nd. He comes here fresh since that run and he handles all ground so at his best he will be very hard to beat.

(10) Sierra Sue had no luck in the All-Star Mile following that victory in the Futurity. Big query coming to Sydney and racing this direction though.

(8) Forbidden Love was brave in the Doncaster following back-to-back Group 1 wins. Whether they are going to the well one too many times is the concern.

(14) In The Congo backs up quickly following the Arrowfield Sprint last weekend. The winner Mazu might be pretty handy so interested to see how that form ties in here.

Having something on the Kiwi (4) Mali Ston who makes his Australian debut with five wins from eight career starts. He’s been gelded since his most recent start, where he ran 3rd behind The Chosen One in Group 1 company. Prior to that he was a Group 2 winner so he should acquit himself well fresh over 1400m today.

(16) Huetor is a 2000m horse but he might just have enough class on his side to win first up over the shorter distance. He’s undefeated in three Australian starts to date.

(9) April Rain is a pest for punters but she doe shave a very good first up record with four top-two finishes from as many starts. She resumes today and it wouldn’t shock me to see her win this.

(3) Acquitted makes his Australian debut and he has a very good first up record with three top-two finishes from as many starts. Bowman goes straight on for Kris Lees – whether he is ready to go at his first run here is a query but he’s had two trials in readiness for today.

(6) Maotai was disappointing last start and gets a stack of gear changes today.

(15) Lancaster Bomber has an excellent record in the wet.
