Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, February 2nd

(6) Touch Of Navy is a well bred colt by Merchant Navy who has jumped out well. Excited to see what some of these Merchant Navy juveniles can do.

(7) Ruthless Dame jumped out with Touch Of Navy and whilst finishing behind him she hit the line very well and the 1300m looks a very good kick off point.

(5) Toronto Terrier was good on debut with strong late splits although the overall race didn’t rate that highly.

Found this race very tricky. (11) Susanne Joy was good when wide on debut although the early speed was slow. She draws a bit trickily but with luck can improve here.

(5) Healing Game was unlucky on debut in another slowly run race. If he can settle closer here with Kah taking over he’s a big chance.

(2) Stagger Together was good first up and looks like the 1400m will suit. He’s one of the only horses coming out of a truly run race.

(7) Ocean Raider held on for a long 3rd in a stronger maiden last start. This is the easiest race he’s contested in his career.

(2) Murrami Express is ready to break through here and I expect the 1400m will suit. He took a bit of winding up but hit the line well last start in a high rating race and 3rd up now he should be peaking. Expect he can land on the leader’s back and prove too strong.

(3) Pascero won well on debut. He got into a bumping duel and had to change course in the straight but finished too well. Expect he can improve off that and make this grade comfortably.

(4) Dayan Star got everything in his favour last start when leading all the way but zipped home and should lead again.

(1) Pounding next best.

(3) Savvy Sovereign looks a good bet. His maiden win first up last prep was arrogant when sitting wide, and he’s been gelded since then. His recent jumpout was excellent, sitting on speed and cruising away for a big win over Ayahuasca who ran enormous first up at Caulfield. I think he’s come back very well and this looks an ideal race.

(1) Netanyahu is an interesting one first up in Australia. His only win came on a heavy track in NZ but he has jumped out well.

Betting Strategy: 1 unit WIN Savvy Sovereign

(1) Guns Ablazing drops heavily in grade after enduring a tough run at The Valley over 2500m last start in a bm100. His form prior around this level and distance was solid. 

(5) Mr Blackwood got the blinkers on up in trip last start and bolted in. This is harder and further but he’s got upside.

(7) Alienated won over this distance comfortably two back at a price before struggling when back to 2500m last start. He’s a big price again drawn the rails with Froggy on and his 3000m record is outstanding with 5 wins from 9 starts, so I’m prepared to ignore everything else.

(11) Slickback Teddy was good behind Aleinated at Cranbourne and can run well again.

With Alienated out, not betting in a very open 3000m race.

Betting Strategy: No Bet

(1) Here To Shock drops heavily in grade after contesting a listed race at Flemington last start. He sat on speed there and stuck on well for 4th. He rises 8.5kg in weight but drops back to a bm64 and looks to get a nice run out to 1600m. 

(5) Mountain Range wasn’t suited by a walking tempo in a small field last start. He can improve in a faster run race.

(8) Bronzba won well first up in a bm58 although the race didn’t rate that well. 

(7) Baglioni was very good resuming behind Logan Street Lion and should get a nice run midfield here.

(10) Ocean’s Jen did well to win 2nd up at Cranbourne. She gets a nice map and can win again now at peak fitness with a handy claim for Cartwright.

(1) D’jumbuck is racing well. He steps up to 1400m here which looks fine and he’s another that maps nicely.

(4) Our August Rose did plenty of work mid race last start and stuck on well. She comes to town now but she can lead these and take running down.

(6) Via Capo next best although he’ll get back.

(12) La Zuuca was solid behind Ocean’s Jen at Cranbourne and we’ll get a test of that form in race 7. She can land on speed with a better getaway and run well.

(5) Icantoo failed at her only run last prep but that was a much stronger contest behind Bella Nipotina. She’s been given plenty of time and jumped out fairly well.

(2) Safe Passage has trialled well and is another that didn’t come up last prep but is up to these at her best.

(3) Star Spirit was solid first up behind Clemenceau and this looks a nice race for her.
