Randwick-Kensington Racing Tips: Wednesday, February 2nd

Billy Bestford previews every race on a good midweek card at Randwick.

RandwickKensington

Wednesday racing heads to the Kensington track at Randwick for a good seven race card.

The track is rated a good 4 but there is a bit of rain forecast for the day so keep an eye on downgrades. The rail is in the true.

Billy Bestford previews every race on the card with his best bet coming up in the first.

(2) Devil’s Throat was resuming as a gelding last start when taking on a very handy race on the Gold Coast. He was smashed in betting that day and sustained a big wide run to only just miss the winner. It was an enormous effort and he only needs to hold that form here in a much easier race to be winning. There’s no flash odds about him but he just looks to get every chance to break through today.

(3) Fielding was pretty good on debut and I was impressed with how he kept finding to the line. Sure to improve from that and think he is up to this.

(6) With Your Blessing has been gelded after a disappointing start to his career. Jmac has been booked for a stable he doesn’t do much riding for so that looks a strong lead. The ultimate gear change might have done the trick.

Tip: (2) Devil's Throat - $1.75 at Ladbrokes

(2) Himalaism started favourite in a strong Saturday 2yo race which has produced a couple of handy winners out of it. Looks very well placed back in this sort of maiden and maps for a nice run throughout with McDonald sticking for the ride.

Thought the most recent trial of (10) Shenthara was good, hitting the line under her own steam. Showed some speed to lead there and she could give this a shake.

(8) Eleni is another who has been trialling up nicely for this debut. The stable can generally produce a few handy 2yos at this time of year so it’s worth keeping an eye on the market.

(5) Richon next best.

I was keen on (4) Jawaani on debut and she ran well considering she was first up 1400m. Will take a stack of improvement out of that and should be suited staying at this trip. She will be nice and prominent in the run from the inside draw and will get her chance today.

(1) Sing A Love Song drops out of tougher races for this much easier task today. Rising to this trip 3rd up will be suitable.

(8) Cap Estel was very good fresh behind a couple of handy ones and has the benefit of race experience on his side.

(6) Always Praying looked very good winning her maiden last start and I think she is ready to take the next step now. Gets in nice and light here with an apprentice claim and the rise to 1550m will only be a positive.

(4) Bedford Square is extremely consistent but just struggles to find a way to win. Was only narrowly beaten last start and I think the drop back in trip might be just what she’s looking for.

(1) Miss Redoble won a strong race 2nd up and is on the one-week turnaround here today. Can only imagine she is flying at the moment and has a decent record 3rd up.

(4) Savvy Legend was only beaten by the track pattern at Canterbury last start and ran on very well. I’m keen to see him get out to 1800m now and I think he might just have a bit more talent than some of these.

(5) Rules Don’t Apply has been competitive in tougher races than this and should be ready to peak now 4th up from a spell. The drop back in trip is my only query.

(2) Reggiewood was good fresh having first start since arriving from Hong Kong. Getting onto a bigger track and stepping from 1400 to 1800 are all positives.

Keen to back (1) Easy Campese who was very good over a trip short of his best. Keen to see him getting to 1400m where he’s won 2 from 4 and getting onto the Kenso track is also a plus. Gets a good claim to offset the top weight and I think he will be very tough to run down here.

(7) Rejoiced is the up and comer, winning 3 of 4 starts and looks and exciting horse. Will put himself up on speed from the low draw and I have no doubt he can handle the rise in grade today.

(4) Construct was outclassed in a strong race at the Gold Coast but was building well before that. He can regain his best form here and will be hard to beat if he does.

(5) Duchess was well backed first up and was only getting warm late behind a few good horses. He’ll enjoy getting onto the Kenso track and will enjoy any rain that does come by this stage of the day.

(1) Quick Tempo was beaten for the first time last start when heading to town. That was his first run for five week so he should take a stack of improvement out of that. Loves it wet and gets in well following a 3kg claim.

(6) Eyewitness was good first up and will be a big danger now with that run under the belt. She loves 1000m.

Tip: (5) Duchess - $8.00 at Sportsbet

Billy has been an avid racing fan ever since he and a few mates started a punters club once they turned 18. Following the initial punters clubs, he was properly hooked after landing a nice collect on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and has had a soft spot for Japanese horses ever since. Is a massive fan of 'blinkers first time' and has been known to enjoy a 'Hail Mary' multi. Loves punting across metro Sydney and Melbourne every Saturday but isn't scared to venture West late in the day to find a Pikey special.
