(2) Prince Of Mercia started odds on last start and just got run down late. Back to 1200m here with Kah sticking I’d expect him to firm up a bit and be hard to beat.

(4) Apres La Mer has had plenty of chances and the form around her last two starts reads very well, with defeats to Oxley Road and Seguso. I thought she had every possible chance last start and 1200m might just be some query.

(7) The Motley Fool ran very well on debut in the winter, starting $3.50 against Saltpeter. She missed the start that day, so it’ll be interesting to see how she goes from barrier 2.

(5) Engage has jumped out well for the Hawkes team and can run a race on debut.

(2) Guns Ablazing has come up very short but does look the obvious. He absolutely bolted in two back at The Valley and with Kah staying on he’ll look to control the race again. This is an average 3000m event, but $1.65 is poisonous.

(1) Field Of Lights has won his last two, the latest in a high weight race. He ran well over this T/D three back behind Darvin, which should see him competitive.

They probably run the quinella.

(1) Shepard bounced back to form last start on the backup and Moody seems to have the horse back to his best. I’d expect Nolen to try and control the race again and if that occurs, he should be hard to run down on a track that has been playing on pace recently.

(3) Tarn’s Prince won at this T/D three back in a fairly average race but wasn’t too far off Long Arm at Caulfield which is good form. Forget the run in Adelaide where he got a long way back and if he can settle on speed again, he should get every chance.

(2) Doroza next best up to 2400m for the first time, just might get back to last in a tactical race and have too much to do.

Easily the toughest race of the day, with two imports dominating the market. (3) Pale King has had one run in Australia, winning at Kembla Grange over the mile in the Spring. I’d expect him to progress but for a horse than won on debut over 2414m I’m not sure about the $2.15 here.

(4) Summit Reach has also won over 1600m but has done most of his racing over 2000m+ in the UK. He’s jumped out fairly well but both imports make this very difficult to have a confident opinion.

(6) Mrs Sippy perhaps next best although the 1600m is perhaps too far.

Outside of the imports it’s a terrible race, but without being over their form enough I can’t be betting here.

(9) Seguso got to an awkward spot first up at The Valley but got through late and got up on the line. There’s little speed in this race and I’d expect from barrier 5 he settles much closer as he did on debut. The 1300m looks ideal and he’s hard to beat.

(4) Celestial Sol is one of the speed influences but generally over a bit further. He ran well in some decent races last prep and is definitely up to a class 1.

(2) Ice Ice Baby was a bit disappointing at The Valley last start but that was behind a couple of handy horses in Snapper and Savannah Cloud. He can lead this field from out wide and gets blinkers on.

(5) Hit The Moon finished well on debut in a Stony Creek maiden and looks like the 1300m will suit.

Surprised about the price for (14) Palace Whisper who in an open race looks a good bet. I’ve liked most of her runs this prep, only getting run down late by a good one at Caulfield and getting caught wide at Geelong. She started $1.30 in a Wodonga maiden and was far too good, winning by 6L. Stays at the 1300m and Lane jumps back on.

(12) Scream Dream doesn’t have a jockey booked at the moment but was a moral beaten at Pakenham last start. Draws out here so he might have to give them a big head start, which hasn’t been easy here of late.

(2) Agreeable is the best performed horse in the field but 1300m is as short as she wants it. She’s a filly that generally gets a fair way back and from barrier 13 with 60.5kg she’ll have it all to do.

(1) Thunder Peak was outclassed behind Zou Dancer last start but wasn’t far off the 2nd placed horse and did beat Parure (since g2 winner) two starts ago. Don’t love the jockey booking but the class drop helps.

(7) Faretti looked gone after the first up failure where he started $2.40 but faded to finish 8th to It’sourtime. That form line has worked out quite well and perhaps he was just lacking fitness in a fast run race. He certainly bounced back to form last start in bm64 grade, controlling the race and bolting in. Up to 1400m looks good and on the map he looks to cross and lead, which could be the pattern of the day. Expect him to firm up and be hard to beat again.

(9) Zousonic won first up last prep and does have a big finish on her day. If she gets a good run she’ll be running on strongly.

(8) Galactus keeps racing well and although he’s a month between runs if he can maintain his form he’ll be around the mark again.

(2) Firstclass Dreamer not the worst roughie at odds. He’s got a good first up record and a good record here at Sandown. The draw hurts but perhaps they try and go forward from 12.

(2) Garvoc is the one to beat in the last. She beat a handy one first up at Geelong and was desperately unlucky at The Valley last start from barrier one, going to the line completely untested. That was in a stronger race so back to bm64 grade, with the 3kg claim for Rawiller, drawn perfectly in 4, she looks the winner.

(8) Hydro Star has been gelded which is interesting. He wasn’t too bad late first up at Flemington but was awful on the Hillside last start. He’s clearly very talented but likely gets back and whether the gelding operation will have changed anything, I don’t know.

(5) Boom Boom Becker should improve off the first up run and generally goes better at 1200m with a run under his belt.

(1) Rathlin was first up at 1400m which was a struggle and looks better suited 2nd up, but he’s been in the wilderness for a while and has to carry 60kg after the claim.

Tip: (2) Garvoc- $2.70 at Sportsbet

Betting Strategy: 2 units WIN Garvoc

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
