Sheza Alibi is the headline act. The four-year-old mare has established herself among Australia’s best and now steps to 2000 metres for the first time. She gets 56kg under the weight-for-age scale and, despite drawing the outside gate, the six-horse field should give Luke Nolen plenty of options.

Birdman is the obvious danger and brings a powerful form reference. He won the Group 1 Underwood Stakes over 1800 metres at Caulfield last start, defeating subsequent Turnbull Stakes winner Cosmic Crusader. He is already a Group 1 winner at 2000 metres and barrier two should allow Ben Melham to put him wherever he wants.

Treasurethe Moment gets 57kg and barrier three. She has the class to make this more than a two-horse race if she returns to her best, while Kingswood comes into the race with solid recent form and could be suited if the small field becomes tactical.

Sheza Alibi is clearly the horse to beat, but at the likely prices Birdman makes this a much more interesting betting race than the market might suggest. His Underwood win has been strongly franked by Cosmic Crusader’s Turnbull Stakes victory and the 2000 metres is already proven territory.

We’re siding narrowly with Birdman at the better price, particularly if Saturday’s track remains rain affected.
