The 2026 Golden Rose brings together 13 of Australia’s most promising three-year-olds at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday, September 26.

Golden Slipper winner Guest House brings the headline form after a record-breaking return in the San Domenico Stakes, while Warwoven and St Gotthard renew their rivalry after fighting out the Run To The Rose. The rise to 1400m adds another layer to a race that should help define the three-year-old pecking order for the remainder of the spring.

Guest House Faces His Biggest Test

Guest House established himself as one of the best juveniles in the country by winning the Golden Slipper, and his first-up performance suggested he has returned every bit as well.

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained colt broke the Rosehill 1100m race record when winning the San Domenico Stakes. He accelerated sharply along the inside and put the race away like a genuine Group 1 horse.

The question is the direct jump from 1100m to 1400m. Guest House bypassed the Run To The Rose, so he meets several rivals with a more conventional grounding for this race. Barrier five gives Zac Lloyd every opportunity to conserve energy and settle within striking distance, but an early price around $2.80 leaves little margin for error.

Warwoven Draws to Control the Race

Warwoven turned the tables on his San Domenico conqueror by winning the Run To The Rose over 1200m. Rachel King positioned him close to the speed and the Bjorn Baker-trained colt showed real determination to hold off St Gotthard.

The extra 200m should suit rather than hinder him. Warwoven was already a Group 3 winner over 1200m as a juvenile and looked strongest through the line in the key lead-up.

Barrier one is both an advantage and a potential tactical challenge. King can save every metre, although she will need clear running when the field turns for home. If the gaps appear, Warwoven has the fitness and racing pattern to make himself extremely difficult to beat.

St Gotthard Ready for 1400m

St Gotthard lost his unbeaten record when narrowly beaten in the Run To The Rose, but the performance did nothing to diminish his Golden Rose prospects.

The Chris Waller-trained colt settled behind Warwoven and continued to close through the line. His previous three wins showed both tactical versatility and a sharp turn of foot, and the rise to 1400m looks ideal.

Barrier nine means his rider will need to find a position without being caught wide. He may be asked to settle a pair further back than Warwoven, but that should give him room to build momentum rather than becoming locked away in traffic.

Under Focus Brings Each-Way Appeal

Under Focus produced another strong finish when third in the Run To The Rose. He was doing his best work late and now receives the longer distance he appears to be looking for.

Barrier four is a major positive. Dylan Gibbons should be able to settle midfield with cover and avoid giving the favourites an impossible start.

He is yet to prove himself at the same level as Guest House, but his racing pattern and steady improvement make him an appealing runner for each-way and exotic bets.

Tron Bolt Has the Group 1 Class

Tron Bolt was only seventh when resuming in the Run To The Rose, but the run was better than the finishing position suggests. The 1200m was short of his best and he should take considerable improvement from it.

He finished his juvenile campaign with victory in the Group 1 J.J. Atkins Stakes over 1600m, giving him the strongest proven form beyond sprinting distances in this field. The Golden Rose distance is unlikely to trouble him.

Barrier 11 forces Chris Waller’s colt to concede some early ground or work forward. He will need the race to be run genuinely, but he is a dangerous runner at a significantly bigger price than the market leaders.

Other Golden Rose Chances

Campione D’Italia can improve after his first-up seventh and draws barrier seven, while Central Europe had limited room late in the Run To The Rose and may have finished closer with clear running. Barrier 13 makes his task harder this time.

Cormier and Stormy Marco bring different form lines into the race, while Plagiarism and Castillo King can contribute to the early speed. Berzelius and Tenenbaum need to improve on their recent ratings but remain open to progression as lightly raced three-year-olds.

Golden Rose Speed Map

Warwoven should use barrier one to hold a prominent position, with Castillo King and Plagiarism likely to press forward. Guest House can settle just behind that group from barrier five, while Under Focus maps for an economical midfield run.

St Gotthard, Tron Bolt and Central Europe have wider barriers and may be forced to settle back. That creates the possibility of a tactical advantage for Warwoven if the leaders are allowed to control the middle stages.

2026 Golden Rose Betting Preview

Guest House is the most accomplished horse in the race and may simply be too good, but Warwoven has the stronger 1400m setup. He is fit, comes through the traditional lead-up and draws to race ahead of his main dangers.

St Gotthard remains a major winning chance and should appreciate the rise in distance. Under Focus is the value runner after drawing to receive the most economical run of the key closers.
