Happy Valley hosts eight races under lights on Wednesday and Tim Geers has highlighted some horses he’s keen on throughout the night.

He’s previewed Race 1, Race 3, Race 4, Race 5 and Race 8.

(2) Bundle Of Delight draws a plum gate tonight and gets Purton on board for the first time this prep as he steps up to 1800m. He hasn’t been disgraced at Sha Tin but should find this easier as he returns to Happy Valley.

(7) Victorious Seeker drew wide first up and didn’t play much of a part but he should improve second up tonight at the track and distance where he recorded his only career victory. Draws better in barrier 5 and looks a touch over the odds at $10.

(4) Great Smart won last start over this track and distance and he might get away with winning another here. Apprentice Jerry Chau jumps on board, replacing Joao Moreira, but that drops him down to a lighter weight than he carried to victory last start. Two starts ago, he carried this weight when running 2^nd at Sha Tin, where he beat rival (9) Green Generation home by 2L. Moreira jumps on him tonight so he has obvious claims but at $4.80, Great Smart appeals.

I’d also have something on (2) Smart Cousin who drops into Class 5 and gets Purton straight on board. Drawn tricky in 12 but it’s an ominous set up.

(5) Branding Power didn’t get a lot of luck on debut, where he was held up late in the race. He drew a wide gate that night, was taken back to find the rail, and then ran into dead ends for half the straight, only getting clear the final 100m. He was barely placed under maximum pressure. He was only beaten 1.8L but he should have finished much closer. He gets the plum draw tonight in barrier 2 and with even luck, I think he’s capable of rolling this favourite.

The favourite is (3) A Smile Like Yours for John Size and Joao Moreira. He ran a big race on debut, beaten a short head, and Moreira jumps aboard to replace Chad Schofield. He’s drawn a touch awkwardly in barrier 8 but if he improves on that debut run, he will be right there at the finish.

With Purton going on (3) Faithful Trinity, I have to back him. He’s been ridden wrong all prep. I think he’s a horse that needs to lead but he hasn’t done that in his past three starts. The last time he led, he won, and that was over this track and distance. Expect an aggressive ride tonight.

(8) V Chevaliers is flying and looks well placed again, while (2) Happy Warrior drops in class and gets the claim for Jerry Chau, putting him on a very winnable mark.

He’s brought me a lot of pain in his past two starts, when he’s turned it up a little bit, but I’m giving (4) Scores Of Fun one more chance from the ideal draw tonight. Barrier 2 is the best draw over this track and distance with the rail in this position. He’s run 2^nd in three of his past four starts so this might be the last time if he can’t win, but he looks perfectly suited again tonight.

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
