We kick things off this week with another Westspeed Platinum maiden, which as I said last week are very icky races. In any case, I’ll be buttering up on two horses here. Note that the 1000m race is down the straight.
(6) Wise Cracker has had four starts for four placings, all here at Pinjarra. Comes into this first up with no trial and there’s no reason she shouldn’t be very competitive.
(10) Superlove gets Pike on first up for the Pearce team. Drawn out in barrier 9 which is actually a positive as the outside rail tends to be the place to be down the straight. Has placed in all three starts and wasn’t far away first up last prep. Should go well.
Tip: (10) Superlove $5.00 Bet365
Also Backing: (6) Wise Cracker $5.50 Bet365
Betting Strategy: 1 unit WIN Superlove, 1 unit WIN Wise Cracker

Keen to back (3) Our Idyll each way here at $13. Completely forget she went around last start when she took a sit and was then held up for the majority of the straight. She got clear running late but it was all over by then. That’s not her go; she’s much better when she can dictate out in front, which I think she can do today with not a great deal of speed in the race. Prior to last start she’d finished in the top two in four consecutive starts and she has three wins from four starts here at Pinjarra. Hoping for a much more aggressive ride and she should be hard to catch.
(14) Rhythm Star might find this class a bit sharp but there’s plenty to like about how she’s returned from a spell. She won first up, was then trapped wide without cover second up, before bouncing back with another win last start. 1600m up to 2000m now but she did that last prep when breaking her maiden over this track and distance.
(2) Cousin Ivan is knocking on the door and now gets the step up in distance he needs. He was a Listed winner over this distance last prep so with Pike aboard, he looks ready to win third up from a spell.
Tip: (3) Our Idyll E/W $13 Sportsbet
Betting Strategy: 0.5 units E/W Our Idyll

This is a dartboard job. (6) Uncle Dick resumes for Lindsey Smith with Paul Harvey booked to ride from the inside gate. First up over 1400m is no issue with this stable but the market will tell you all you need to know about its chances late. This could either start a firm $5.00 chance or a friendless $15 chance.
(3) Peppijack has a fantastic record at the track and distance with three wins from five starts. He took out the Mandurah Cup three starts ago and he should be able to lead, providing Wakan Tanka doesn’t kick up to hold him out.
(5) Zetorio is flying, as is the stable. He begun to found form three starts ago and that culminated with a big win from the back of the field last start at Ascot. Query is the drop back to 1400m.
(2) Power Of St George is more than capable but is racing below his best. The blinkers come off and the visors go on, as does apprentice Laqdar Ramoly. This is a fair drop back in grade so no surprise to see him turn his form around.
Tip: (6) Uncle Dick $6.00 Sportsbet

Speaking of dartboard jobs, this is another.
(5) Rum Raker is now undefeated from two starts here at Pinjarra after a victory over 1200m last start. He gets up to 1400m now which is his pet distance, so it’s not impossible that he runs a very cheeky race at double figure odds here.
(7) That’s Funny Az was run down first up at Bunbury but did start a well-backed favourite. He was beaten first up last prep before recording successive wins second and third up. This is a harder race but we’re getting $16 for a horse that’s going to find the lead, and from there he can be hard to run down.
(1) Comfort Me has had nothing go right all prep. Now draws barrier 1 and they elect to put apprentice Madi Derrick back on. Will need luck once again – the day he gets it he will show his true ability but he keeps finding ways to get beat.
(2) Giant Leap draws wide but will be flooding home down the outside. Should be better off for that run over 1400m last start given he was jumping from 1000m to 1400m.
Chances don’t end there!
Tip: (5) Rum Raker $14 Sportsbet
Value: (7) That’s Funny Az $16 Sportsbet
Betting Strategy: 0.25 units WIN Rum Raker, 0.25 units WIN That's Funny Az

Ominous set up here with William Pike booked to ride (10) Born To Try who makes her stable debut for the Lindsey Smith camp. She ran very well first up but failed as favourite here last start. She’s only had five weeks between runs so it’s hard to know if that’s enough time for the stable to turn her around, but she gets the blinkers on for the first time and the Wizard goes on, so I’ll be taking no chances.
(3) Ginger Flyer bolted in first up and then failed last start when I was very keen on her here. She gets the blinkers back on today and Chris Parnham taking over from Beaux Banovic-Edwards, so there’s plenty to like about her here.
(4) Double Spice won well first up and the first two put a huge gap on the rest of the field which is always a good sign. Stable goes well here at Pinjarra and he’s drawn fairly well in barrier 6. Main query is that he won well first up last prep and then failed in two subsequent starts.
(6) Lock Her In isn’t hopeless at big odds.
Tip: (10) Born To Try $6.00 Sportsbet
Also Backing: (3) Ginger Flyer $7.00 Bet365
Betting Strategy: 1 unit WIN Born To Try, 0.5 units WIN Ginger Flyer

Terrific race but again, not an easy one.
(10) Indigo Blue resumes from a spell today and she won her trial in very good style. She was a big run in defeat in the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes last prep, before leading everywhere bar the winning post in the Champion Fillies’ Stakes. She’s clearly got a motor and with even luck, she should land on speed and be very hard to run down.
(14) Pletto was behind her in the trial back in 4th under William Pike, who rides her on race day here. She’s got her own share of talent, with three wins and five placings from eight starts. First up last prep she was brave in defeat after sitting three-wide the trip, before atoning for that with a dominant win second up. She does have tactical speed so it will be interesting to see where she gets to in the run. Big winning chance.
(8) Lucky Linda Lulu has a terrific first up record, with two wins and five placings from seven starts. She’s won two from four at the track and distance so at $23 she’s definitely worth including.
(3) Fa’lion Machine was $9.00 into $5.00 last start at Bunbury when we were on, and she was once again a horrible watch, ending up near last on the rail before flashing home to run 3rd. She’s absolutely flying this preparation. Madi Derrick keeps the ride and draws barrier 15, neither of which are ideal, but once again she’s come up a big price at $14.
Tip: (10) Indigo Blue $4.25 Sportsbetting
Value: (8) Lucky Linda Lulu $23 & (3) Fa'lion Machine $14
Betting Strategy: 1.25 units WIN Indigo Blue, 0.5 units WIN Fa'lion Machine, 0.25 units WIN Lucky Linda Lulu

I might be a glutton for punishment but I’ll stick with (9) Weaponson for another week. This horse is airborne. Only ever missed a placing three times from 15 career starts and the furthest he’s been beaten this prep is 0.6L. Flew home from last to run 2nd last start, loves this distance and has won his only start here at Pinjarra. No reason he can’t go very close once again.
(5) Beautiful Mind might be back this prep. She was a Listed winner going back to 2019 but she was well below her best in two starts last prep. Her first up run was very encouraging though, blocked until the 200m mark before running home strongly. Drawn wide in 13 here so tactics will be interesting, but she’s well and truly good enough at her best.
(11) Resortman gets Chris Parnham back on and blinkers on for the first time. He’s been a touch disappointing in his past two starts so it will be interesting to see what the blinkers bring about.
(13) Tommy Blue won here two starts back and then had no luck last time out. Draws the inside and Pike sticks so gets every chance to bounce back.
It will also be interesting to see how (1) Not To Be Mist returns – he has form behind the likes of Showmanship and normally races well fresh.
Will be looking to back Weaponson and Beautiful Mind with a saver on Tommy Blue.
Tip: (9) Weaponson $5.50 Sportsbet
Value: (5) Beautiful Mind $14 Sportsbet
Saver: (13) Tommy Blue $6.00 Ladbrokes
Betting Strategy: 0.75 units WIN Weaponson, 0.5 units WIN Beautiful Mind, 0.5 units WIN Tommy Blue

One of the day’s features is the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
(5) Sniparoochy goes on top and on a tough card, I’ve made her my best. She was dominant on debut at Bunbury before scrambling home last time out. She’s been back to the trials since then and she couldn’t have trialled better, cruising home by about 9L. She gets the winkers applied for the first time here and if she produces her absolute best, I think she’ll be too quick for the rest.
(7) Michelada looks the danger for Simon Miller and William Pike. Was sound on debut and will appreciate the step up in distance to 1200m. The stable are well aware of what it takes to win this race and they hold a strong hand once again.
(2) Success Play is a hugely fascinating runner. I loved his run on debut in the Crystal Slipper Stakes, rocketing home from the back of the field. I then made him my best of the day at Bunbury last start but he was pretty disappointing all things considered. The blinkers go on today and it’s notable he trialled in blinkers before running last start. They’ve obviously had them up their sleeve for the big occasion and Chris Parnham also sticks with him.
(15) Buster’s Force started favourite ahead of Michelada on debut but slipper at the start and copped a big check before failing to run on. Could be the blowout given his solid SP profile?
Tip: (5) Sniparoochy $2.40 Sportsbet
Value: (2) Success Play $41 Sportsbet
Saver: (7) Michelada $6.00 Sportsbet
Betting Strategy: 2.5 units WIN Sniparoochy, 0.5 units WIN Michelada, 0.25 units WIN Success Play,

If the real (1) Gemma’s Son turns up, this is as good as over. He’s had a very unconventional (and long) preparation but he is exceptionally well placed at set weights here, back to his own age group. He’s been racing against the best horses in the land, contesting the likes of the Kingston Town Stakes. He was given a let-up before his return last start, where he made a mess of the start and lost all hope. Senior jockey back on today, back to level weights, drawn ideally in barrier 2 and looks set to be very hard to beat in his defence of his 2YO crown.
Tip: (1) Gemma’s Son $2.10 Ladbrokes
Betting Strategy: 2 units WIN Gemma's Son

This is one of the races of the day and tactics will be fascinating.
(7) Montelena took all before her in the winter, notching up four consecutive wins at Belmont from 1600m to 2200m. She resumes over the mile today having won a trial leading in, which is different to last prep when she went in without a trial. Chris Parnham stays associated with her and it will be interesting to see if she picks up where she left off.
(12) Last Of The Line has now won five from seven and he comes into this on the quick backup after winning last weekend. He tackles the mile for the first time today and it’s going to be interesting to see what they decide to do from barrier 1. He’ll need some luck but on current form he is the horse to beat.
(9) Luke’s Gold continues to turn up and run well. He hasn’t had much go his way in recent starts. Three back the jockey dropped the whip, two back he probably should have won, and last start he sat three-wide the trip before going down by a length. Blinkers off and pacifiers on today, he gets another tricky draw in barrier 8 but he will be right there at the finish.
(8) Tollman has a terrific record at this distance.
Tip: (7) Montelena $5.50 Sportsbetting
Value: (9) Luke's Gold $9.00 TAB
Saver: (12) Last Of The Line
Betting Strategy: 1 unit WIN Montelena, 1 unit WIN Last Of The Line, 0.5 units WIN Luke's Gold
