Tim Geers highlights two races he’s keen to bet in on the card at Geelong on Friday.

Racing today heads to Geelong in Victoria and Tim Geers has highlighted two races on the card he’s keen to bet in.

(10) Escadora was a good run on debut on the heavy 10 at Cranbourne behind Blazzero. There is always a query with a horse going from such a heavy track onto a firmer surface, but the ground should still have a decent amount of cut in it. They spaced the rest, which is generally a good sign, and the horse that ran 3rd has since come out and run well again. Jamie Kah replaces Damien Thornton today, but she will have to overcome the wide draw. Missed the early price but wouldn’t be surprised to see this horse continue to be very well backed.

The obvious dangers look to be the Danny O’Brien pair. (13) Man Of Heart looks the pick of them after a decent jumpout at Flemington recently, however the horse that went straight past him under a hold is the winner of just one from 16. This horse did show good ability on debut and he gets Damian Lane booked first up today.

(12) Got An Inspiration also jumped out at Flemington recently, but was half a step slow out of the barriers and settled last. Went OK under no pressure. Bred by Vadamos out of a Shocking mare, which would indicate this horse could be looking for more ground.

The big issue with both of those is the form of the stable, which has had just 2 winners from their past 50 runners. With that said, they do strike at 20% here at Geelong.

Chris Waller is also represented. He sends out (8) Aeecee Dame with Damien Thornton off Escadoro and onto him, but I thought the jumpout recently was fair at best.

I’m tipping I won’t be alone in backing (11) Rinnova here. She showed plenty of ability on debut at Pakenham, when sailing home from last to run 2nd. She was very green on that occasion, wanting to lay in down the straight, but she has an engine. Was sent straight for a spell and returns for just her second career start as a 5YO mare now, so clearly she has had issues along the way. Showed a lot more speed in her recent jumpout, which is good as her main rival here will lead. Team Hawkes don’t bring many to Geelong, but when they do, they normally go well, with four winners from 11 runners in the past 12 months.

(2) Burdekin resumes from more than a year off the track for the Waterhouse/Bott stable. He’s been gelded and they throw the blinkers on first up. His recent jumpout at Flemington was good, leading and finding the line well. Will kick up to lead this and with any cheap sectionals he’s going to be hard to run down.

(15) Versilia was very well backed on debut at Moe but failed to make an impression on the heavy ground. Another from the Danny O’Brien stable – betting here will be interesting.

Tim Geers

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
