Racing today at Belmont in the West as the countdown to the return of Ascot continues.

The Listed Farnley Stakes headlines today’s meeting, which comes up as Race 7 on the nine-race card.

The track is rated a Soft 7 with the rail out 3m the entire circuit.

Tim Geers has highlighted his best bets on the card, which come up in Race 2 and Race 7.

Very keen to follow in (2) Hoover here. It was a horror show first up at Northam – he was outpaced early, got spat out the back mid-race and then laid in badly under pressure at the top of the straight. When he straightened up and got to the outside, he really hit top gear and flew home to run 2nd. The step up to 1400m here is a massive plus and that should allow him to roll forward and take up a position on speed. From there he’s going to be very hard to beat.

(12) Ocean Aura ran well on debut and should improve plenty from that experience. Happy to save on her.

This looks a two-horse race the more I look at it.

(7) Notorious One has had four starts this preparation and should be undefeated. He had absolutely no luck when he ran 3rd but he’s made up for that with two subsequent wins. He’s had six starts here at Belmont for five wins and that 3rd just mentioned, so really he should be a clean 6/6 here. Gets his soft conditions that he likes and continues to handle whatever is thrown at him.

(5) Tellem We’re Comin draws the inside and can sit handier in the run. He’s been super in two runs for Dan Morton and Brad Rawiller gets down to 55.5kg to ride him. Gets a stack of gear changes today with the blinkers, lugging bit and tongue tie all coming off. Looks the danger and fairly confident one of the two win.

Tim Geers

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
