Racing heads to Ballarat on Tuesday for a solid eight race card.

Trent Crebbin has done the form and highlighted three bets he’s keen to have, kicking off in Race 1.

Not often I’d bet into a 2000m maiden but I thought there was one over the odds here in the form of (5) Tavabeel. He led on the inside on debut and was pressured who really poured it on mid race, going nearly 14L above average for the class to the 800m. The horse outside him has won fairly comfortably since and with a softer early tempo I think 2000m will be no issue. He should improve off that and there doesn’t seem much pressure here.

Siding with (5) Skybeam at start number 2 here. I thought he ran well when holding onto 3rd on debut at Cranbourne in a high rating race on a heavy 10 track, only 0.75L off Hesket who is quite handy and bolted in last week in a maiden. On breeding I’d expect the 1400m to suit and he can improve enough to win this.

(9) Tauty will be hard to beat after closing well and just being nabbed on the line first up. 1400m should suit him also.

Going for a bit of value here with (3) Minola who looks ready to peak 3rd up. She improved nicely 2nd up at 1600m, sitting on speed and just being outgunned late. Up to 2000m suits and she’s got an excellent 3rd up record (3:2-1-0) as well as being 1/1 at this T/D. It’s an open race but she should get a nice run and be thereabouts.

Trent Crebbin

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
