(3) Maui made a good return to the track when finishing 4th at Sale. That was his first race in almost a year so you would expect he takes massive improvement out of that run. He had jumped out really nicely leading into that so I think the stable have him in really good stead. He hit the line strongly last start so I like them rising significantly here in trip while he’ll sit back off a strong tempo speed and can be strongest late.

Strong hopes given to (1) Comic Set and (8) Surecan who look the main dangers.

Hoping that (10) Deep Blast can get a bit of luck from the sticky gate and if so, looks a massive winning chance. Still only lightly raced with 5 starts and has only missed the placing on one occasion. He’s a horse with plenty of upside and I like him fresh over 1000m. Jump outs have been good and he’s ready to go to the next level now.

(1) Direct was rolled at extremely short odds first up but he will be better for that run. Go through his form and it’s clear he’s the class in this field. From barrier 1 I’d expect he leads and will be tough to run down.

(9) Red Hot Nicc looks the value here with a good fresh run under the belt. Any natural improvement out of that will see him run a good race on speed.

Billy Bestford

Billy has been an avid racing fan ever since he and a few mates started a punters club once they turned 18. Following the initial punters clubs, he was properly hooked after landing a nice collect on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and has had a soft spot for Japanese horses ever since. Is a massive fan of 'blinkers first time' and has been known to enjoy a 'Hail Mary' multi. Loves punting across metro Sydney and Melbourne every Saturday but isn't scared to venture West late in the day to find a Pikey special.
