Tuesday racing heads to Ballarat for an eight-race card on Tuesday, March 8th. Some scattered showers are forecast but it should be relatively clear for racing in the afternoon with the track expected to be in the Soft (6) range.

Billy Bestford is keen to back three horses across the Ballarat card today.

Having something on (7) Mongolian Flame here who should be at peak fitness now and will make the most of the 3kg claim up in the lead. Think she is suited out to this sort of trip after a good run last start over 2200m. Don’t think there’s too many other natural leaders and in a wide open race, her experience could be a big factor.

(11) Phoenix Global will be much better with the first up run under the belt and his 2nd up record is good. Will roll forward with Lane taking the ride and has been a winner at his only start at Ballarat. If he can regain his best form he will be taking care of a bm58.

(10) Gunna Gunna looked home for all money last start but was just run down before the post. That was following an impressive first up win and she has clearly come back a much better horse this prep.

(6) Side Bet is back in grade for this and should be much better suited. Still lightly raced with upside and no doubt he’s good enough to be winning here.

(7) Draft Day looks a promising horse resuming today following a good debut performance. The form out of that maiden has been increidbly strong with a number of subsequent winners finishing behind him that day. It was a big run as well, caught wide but still too good. Oli rode there and he rides today with just one other ride on the card which looks a good enough lead.

Billy Bestford

Billy has been an avid racing fan ever since he and a few mates started a punters club once they turned 18. Following the initial punters clubs, he was properly hooked after landing a nice collect on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and has had a soft spot for Japanese horses ever since. Is a massive fan of 'blinkers first time' and has been known to enjoy a 'Hail Mary' multi. Loves punting across metro Sydney and Melbourne every Saturday but isn't scared to venture West late in the day to find a Pikey special.
