Caulfield will play host to a 9 race card and Billy Bestford is keen to bet into a few races today.

It’s a massive day of racing as Caulfield plays host to a 9-race card which will be the supporting act to group racing in Adelaide and Melbourne.

Best Bet: Race 7 – (1) Horrifying

The track is currently rated a soft 5 with the rail out 12 metres the entire track. There looks to be a few good bets throughout the day so read on as Billy Bestford brings you his full preview and best bets on the card.

(6) Spinning almost beat the highly regarded Gimmie Par on debut and will take plenty of improvement from that run. Looks to have fair share of ability and looks suited by the slight rise to 1200m.

(1) Generation won a BM64 on debut and did it easily. Looked to have plenty in the tank from that and can definitely take the natural step here today. Should roll forward and prove hard to catch with Kah on board.

(10) Excelman gets right down in the weights today after a huge run in a BM70 over 1800m. Will not know himself with the 54kg and will enjoy the 2000m where he is a winner previously. Drawn for the right run and will only need to take natural improvement to be in with a good chance here.

(1) Portland Jimmy ran a strong 3rd in a good race at Flemington last start and should be nearing peak fitness here. Gets in with a good claim and will enjoy dropping back in grade for this.

(8) Crimson Ace has been racing well and can run into the placings here. Should be suited by the small field and will be swooping late.

Could make a few excuses for (6) Intellective last start after being caught in the worst part of the track over a trip short of her best. Gets out out to the mile now which is her pet distance and looks primed to fire here today.

(5) Miss Damita can always pull out a good fresh run and should enjoy the run of the race from gate 5. Has strong form around some good Saturday races and will be right in this on the back of that.

(3) Savigne will be a big improver here 2nd up and usually performs well with a run under her belt. Getting up to the mile will suit her and will take plenty of improvement from that first up run.

Thought (10) Platini could give this a shake after racing consistently this prep. Didn’t really have conditions to suit last start but was making up ground to finish 4th. Should sit in behind a solid pace today and be right in the finish.

(9) Pintoff was very impressive fresh and is building a good record. Will still have plenty of improvement to come and gets out to the 1200m, where he has performed well recently.

(8) Alburq is as honest as they come but strike rate is some sort of query. Still stuck on the one win from 22 starts but 11 minor placings tells you he is never far away. Should enjoy a nice ride from gate 4.

(3) Holbien probably just needs a repeat of last start to go very close to winning here today. Never wins out of turn but looks extremely well placed in a race like this today. Was good up on speed last start and will give a very good sight.

(5) Mr Exclusive is the only horse to bring winning form into this race and could just be on an upwards trend now 3rd up. Stays at the mile which might be a slight concern but can win in a field of this quality.

(1) Blazejowski is a very good fresh horse and has been jumping out very well in the lead up to this. Will have to carry 59.5kg but this is well within his reach today. Loves the 1100m and should be suited in the small field from the wider draw.

(8) Streetcar Stranger was an impressive last start winner after bolting in once seeing daylight in the straight. Race fitness could prove crucial here and finds Jamie Kah now.

Never know what to make of (2) Ashlor who probably brings the best exposed form on paper here. Has run very well in some proper WFA sprint races in recent times and can win this on his best performances.

(1) Horrifying had to get right back from a wide draw last start before flying home to just miss over 1700m. Really keen to see him out to this trip now and should be able to settle closer from barrier 5. Jamie Kah sticks for the ride and looks a very good chance today.

(2) Redwood Shadow has been building nicely this prep and will likely peak here today 3rd up out in trip. You’d think Yendall will follow Horrifying everywhere he goes and look to finish off over the top.

(2) Mozzie Monster will get back like he does and swoop hard again. Think today can be his day out to the mile. That form behind Annavisto recently looks strong and this race is no harder than he has been facing.

(4) Succeed Indeed showed plenty of improvement 2nd up when running into the placings behind Brooskpire. Will only be improved from that and another win looks close.

(8) Hengroen was a tough debut winner at Pakenham and can only take improvement from taht performance. Was 1400m first up there so you’d think he will enjoy getting over further. Kah to ride and looks the horse with upside.

Happy to side with (5) Curran here from a price point of view and is a horse who is in flying form. Was five week between runs when he came over the top to win at 1200m last start and should strip fitter for this now today.

All eyes will be on (4) Ayrton who won his first two races in convincing fashion and the times suggest he is a group horse in the making. Can’t make him a bet a the short odds but you’d think with even luck he just wins.

Billy Bestford

Billy has been an avid racing fan ever since he and a few mates started a punters club once they turned 18. Following the initial punters clubs, he was properly hooked after landing a nice collect on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and has had a soft spot for Japanese horses ever since. Is a massive fan of 'blinkers first time' and has been known to enjoy a 'Hail Mary' multi. Loves punting across metro Sydney and Melbourne every Saturday but isn't scared to venture West late in the day to find a Pikey special.
