I think black odds is fair enough about (1) Philosopher who won well here on debut, leading all the way and holding off a couple of smart ones. He has to carry the penalty here but looks to have plenty of talent and the race experience.

(2) Rampant Lion ran well down the straight on debut and has trialled very nicely for this, showing good speed to lead and win by 5L at Pakenham. He maps to stalk the favourite.

(4) Daumier has been well backed early. He’s jumped out well and should be finishing strongly.

I think the Philosopher race will stand up as one of the better 2yo races in Melbourne, and I’m keen to be with (5) Jewellery (who is my early Blue Diamond pick) here back to her own sex. She ran on very well, coming home in 33.56 for her last 600m, only narrowly bettered by Scorched Earth on the day. She’s going to get back again and does stay at 1000m, but she’ll be flying home late.

(1) Latizia won well on debut down the straight. The late splits were good but she got an easy time of it and I don’t think she beat much yet now has to carry the penalty.

(11) Miss Roseiano has trialled very well at Pakenham under a hold, leading all the way. She can definitely figure.

(4) Bistro won smartly on debut although the race didn’t rate very well and the form out of it hasn’t been great.

181717.2

Open race. (3) For Real Life was good on speed behind Danny’s St Darci last start before a let up. That horse has since won impressively at this level. She maps for a nice run behind the speed.

(1) Jilette has come back very well, just missing first up at big odds before leading all the way over this T/D last start in solid time. She drops 0.5kg for that and draws well in barrier 1.

(2) Asfoora has won both career starts impressively in the bush. This looks a good city test for her.

(4) Ghumaama is easy to tie in with a few of these and should run well again.

111312.6
5. Esta La Roca (3) J: Joe Bowditch (56kg) T: Lloyd Kennewell
5.554.9

No surprise to see (3) Enthaar well backed and come up short. She was simply too good despite covering ground at this T/D last start and has trialled very well since. She’s up in the weights here but likely sits just behind the leaders and will be hard to beat.

(2) Streetcar Stranger ran on well for 2nd to Enthaar last start and meets her 2.5kg better at the weights. He’s 2/3 when 3rd up and can run very well again.

(1) Sartorial Splendor hasn’t fired this prep but back to 1000m suits and at his best he’s hard to run down.

(5) Esta La Roca is a speedy mare who races well fresh although this might be just a bit too tough.

Enthaar clearly on top but I’d want black figures and I don’t think she’ll drift too much.

Tip: (3) Enthaar- $1.80 at TAB

191917.4
10. Unique Artist (4) J: Zac Spain (54kg) T: P Stokes
3.433.25

(10) Unique Artist looks the one to beat again. She improved lengths to win 2nd up jumping sharply in trip and should only be fitter for that. She’s lightly raced, on the improve and maps for another soft run.

It might be one run too early but watch for a tactics notification change for (8) Vegas Knight. It normally takes him a few runs into a prep before they send him forward and he does have a dominant win at this T/D over Grand Promenade.

(5) Somerset Maugham has had no luck all prep but needs to jump better. Lane takes the ride and he can definitely win, but he’s running out of chances.

(6) Dirty Deeds was too good up the inside last start and now gets to 2000m for the first time which will be interesting.

8. Excelida (1) J: Michael Dee (54kg) T: Ben & J D Hayes
1389.1
9. Witchfulthinking (4) J: Patrick Moloney (54kg) T: Andrew Noblet

Speed looks strong. (4) Lighthouse has to be the one to beat again given that. She got into an awkward spot last start at Flemington but charged through the gaps to win well. She’s up 2.5kg from that but can just go back from the draw and if she gets a trail into it she should be too strong late.

(5) Open Minded won well for us last start when able to lead and dictate. Can’t see that happening here with Witchfulthinking at 1400m but he might take a sit and be in the right spot.

(2) Crosshaven can improve fitness wise from last start when no match for Lighthouse. The run before at this T/D he was solid in a high rating race behind Sinawann.

(1) Age Of Chivalry is consistent and with a bit of early luck will be thereabouts again.

14. Zac De Boss (6) J: Damien Thornton (58kg) T: Simon Zahra

(5) Show Some Decorum might be the one at odds here that can sit 3 back the fence and pick the gaps off a hot tempo. He’s come back well, winning first up before sitting wide the trip at Stawell but finishing well. 3rd up at 1400m looks ideal and he’ll just need a bit of luck from the inside.

(1) Over The Sky is a talented horse who has a strong first up record. He maps for a similar run midfield and can win.

(2) So Risque is up in class but has done well to win both runs this prep. He’s got a very tricky draw at the 1400m start.

(7) Saint Of Katowice was a horror watch first up and can atone but is another with a tough barrier.

There looks to be very strong tempo here with a handful of leaders engaged. Normally I’d look for something drawn a bit better for this start but (9) Yonce should be able to drop back and find a spot just off midfield. She’s clearly got talent having bolted in by 3.25L last start and I think she can round these up off that hot tempo.

(8) Ayahuasca may need the run and had to be ridden out to get 2nd in her latest jumpout but has talent and upside. She’ll get a long way back but enjoy the tempo.

(5) Our August Rose was good when wide at Stawell last start, just going down to (2) Libbyangel. This is harder but both are racing well and proven at the trip.

Tip: (9) Yonce- $2.15 at TAB

Betting Strategy: 2 units WIN Yonce

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
