Gold Coast Racing Tips: Saturday, January 9th

The final lead ups to the Magic Millions next week take place at the Gold Coast on Saturday, and Trent Crebbin has picked out two bets later in the day.

Things are heating up at the Gold Coast, as the build up to next week’s Magic Millions race day continues.

The track is currently a good 4 but there is some rain forecast, and the rail is true.

Trent Crebbin has singled out two races he’s keen to bet in- Race 7, and the feature of the day, The Wave, Race 8.

A few more familiar faces here, and provided the track isn’t too wet, I’m happy to side with (10) Yao Dash. The Melbourne stint didn’t exactly go to plan, but his run last start in the Wyong Magic Millions was very good when 2^nd to Eleven Eleven, who has won again since. Perhaps he just prefers the clockwise way of going, but that run should see him very competitive here. He gets Nash, who has ridden him to both career wins, and draws for a lovely trail just off a good speed in barrier 6. My only issue would be a wet track, but so far the track has dodged the heavy rain expected earlier in the week.

(1) The Astrologist fell in last start at Pakenham. He’s 5 weeks between runs but is the class and the one they have to beat. Barrier one could be a touch tricky and at the $2.70 I didn’t want to pile in.

Of the locals, (5) Shooting For Gold has been impressive putting up a picket fence, but he draws the carpark and likely gets a long way back which is enough to put me off.

Include (9) Fast Thinker in wider exotics, it’s not often a horse a horse that’s won its last two in a row at the track goes around at $126. This is obviously a huge step up, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him outrun the SP.

(10) Paradee looks the horse to beat in the feature of the day, ‘The Wave’. She was 7 weeks between runs last start in the Lord Stakes and ran very well for 2^nd in a bunched finish behind Defibrillate. She beat home Tavidance, Mosh Music and Pancho which looks very strong form for this. The 1800m is perfect, she should take fitness from that run, and she draws beautifully in barrier 3 with Willo taking the ride.

(1) Ballistic Boy is the main danger. He was scratched at the gates last week, but this looks a suitable race, 4^th up at 1800m. He also draws well and may even try to hold the back of Paradee in the run from barrier 5.

(5) Wapiti wasn’t beaten far by The Harrovian last start in listed grade and is 1/1 at the T/D.

Trent Crebbin

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
