Gosford Racing Tips: Wednesday, February 24th

Gosford is the venue for Wednesday racing in New South Wales and Joshua Reed has found some good bets across the seven race card.

GosfordRaceCourse

Gosford gives Sydney tracks a break this Wednesday by hosting the New South Wales mid-week meeting with seven challenging races for the punters.

The rail is in the 3m position and the track is currently rated a soft 6. There is rain around on race day, so expect the track to remain soft throughout the day.

Andrew Adkins returns to the saddle after the horrific fall and although he only has three rides, we won’t have to wait long with his first race back being in Race 2.

Joshua Reed is looking to bounce back today and has 5 bets over 4 races. Below are his best bet and best value of the afternoon.

Best Bet: Race 3 – (6) Salateen $2.20 Bet365

Best Value: Race 2 – (7) Visceral $9.50/$3.00 E/W Sportsbet

Nice little two-year-old race to start the day here with seven having their first start and three returning off a break.

(11) Naples goes on top for me here despite only having the one trial in the lead-up. She wasn’t asked to do a lot in her Kembla Grange trial, with those around here really getting into their work around the bend and in the straight. She cruised to the line under a hold from Rachel King and should be up to the mark, similar to last preparation. She was very impressive in her debut despite being held up near the 400m mark and finished 1.4 lengths off Fake Love who has since performed well. She then went to Flemington up the straight where she was very plain as she either didn’t handle the going or the Flemington straight, possibly both. She is a big chance in this race if she can get through the soft conditions.

(12) Prasiolite is a debut runner for the Chris Waller stable out of Written Tycoon by the talented Jade Marauder. She has had two trials in the lead up to this with her latest trial sticking with Four Moves Ahead, gapping the rest of the field with ease. We all know race day conditions can bring a couple un-done and she has drawn barrier seven which can prove tricky depending on how she begins. I will be watching with interest.

(8) Amen Corner rounds out the top three with Tommy Berry aboard. They scratched before last Wednesday’s meeting at Kensington, presumably because of track conditions, so it will be interesting to see what they do here.

Tip: (11) Naples $5.60

There is a couple here at decent each-way odds that I can entertain in this race.

(7) Visceral will be nearing peak fitness and there is a lot to take out of her runs to date. Two back at Newcastle she looked the winner in the straight before being beaten on the post by the promising Vucetich, who has since won in impressive fashion at Newcastle. The daughter of Swiss Ace then went to Canterbury two Fridays ago and led at a leisurely pace but unfortunately Keegan Latham pushed the button a little too late and ended up no match for the winner Mightybeel. Although the form guide reads beaten 4.9 lengths in sixth, 0.6 lengths covered second to sixth with three of the remaining five racing her again here. Had Latham pushed the button a bit earlier, she finishes second by a nice margin. She looks to lead again here and hopefully she doesn’t give them a chance late in the race.

(2) Lost Impact is another I will entertain at decent odds. Her debut at Hawkesbury was very good and she performed well despite racing a touch green. She will come on nicely from that run and will put herself in a nice position with her gate speed. If (7) Visceral looks vulnerable in the lead, she will be straight onto it.

(6) Dr Evil can run another bold race if they can sit close enough in the run from the draw.

Tip: (7) Visceral $9.50/$3.00 E/W

You simply can’t deny what (6) Salateen did last start at this track and distance and it is hard to side against her.

She returned with a bang despite racing keen throughout and saluted in a tidy 3.4 lengths. She almost ran figures as good as her win at the end of last preparation which indicates she has returned better than ever and should improve further after that last start. She has drawn the widest here but with only seven runners, she should be able to slot in nicely one out one back. Providing she gets through the going well enough, she should easily handle this step up in grade.

(8) Geist was impressive at Gosford two back, taking the shortcuts and running home in a nice figure to win. She then lost track of the other runners at Kensington last start and then come home well despite having to veer to the inside to avoid colliding with another runner. The inside wasn’t the place to be that late in the day so the fact she still come home nicely is a testament to her ability. Up to 1200m suits and shouldn’t be too far off them despite the poor draw.

(2) Rhythmic Pulse can run a cheeky race if he can find and early/easy lead.

Tip: (6) Salateen $2.20

(1) La Grisa made a mess of them last start and she will probably go close to doing the same again. She meets six of the other eight runners again but this time over 2600m instead of 2200m, but judging what she did at Warwick Farm, it shouldn’t be a worry. She sat prominently there which I think she will do again with the inside draw before using her turn of foot to put away her opposition eased up. She ran her best figure to date and despite having to give the ones she beat last time around 3kg, she still looks hard to beat.

(2) Castel Sant’Angelo gets to a distance more to his liking and looks to get a similar run to last start. He will be there in the finish, especially if this becomes a real staying test.

(6) Joe’s Joy is no stranger to this sort of distance and can make a race of it at double figures.

Happy to side with (5) Legal Challenge here on the back of a nice return at Hawkesbury. He copped some bumps around the 400m before getting into some clear air and finishing off nicely. His personal figures from that race were his best to date and considering it was his first-up run, I am expecting him to improve here from a nice draw. Tom Sherry will claim 2kg which means he will carry the same weight as the three two-year-old’s in this race, which will pose a huge advantage. I am not overly confident in this race, but he can definitely run a big race at a nice price.

(6) Raoul is a deserved favourite and the one to beat. She was very game in third last start at Kembla Grange where she went down by 2.8 lengths and was later to be found to be suffering with heat stress. I am expecting an improved showing.

(3) Double Ex looks the best of the rest, but I think will prefer a bigger track.

I think this girl could be pretty good, but obviously she has to prove it on the racetrack. The unraced full sister to Lanciato, (8) Our Lancette has trialled like a bomb over her last two trials and looks set to make an impact in her debut. She won both trials in easy fashion with the latest over 1000m and looked like she had plenty in her tank. The draw is the query here, but she has shown some good gate speed, so hopefully they ride her to get in or even head forward. Gosford isn’t a track you want to get too far back but I am sure Mark Newnham and Rachel King know that.

(1) Attribution is the best of those who have raced and is drawn to be in a good position. Although she has only trialled once in the lead up, she looks ready to go first-up. James McDonald takes the ride which will boost the confidence of her backers and she is the one to beat.

(10) Virtuous Miss will need to improve ten-fold to be any chance here, but she is better than most of her rivals.

Happy to take on the favourite here with (7) Champagne Vega here on top. Providing they head here instead of Canterbury; I think he is a great chance to make it three on the trot. He has had two wins at Canberra, winning by 0.3 of a length first-up with 61.5kg before stepping up in grade and in distance next start, this time winning by 4 lengths carrying 61kg. His ratings are pretty consistent and based on them alone, he should be very competitive here. The step up to the mile suits and the inside draw should ensure he gets into a nice midfield position. The slow conditions won’t worry him and the drop back to 58kg brings him right into this.

(8) Flexible is going for three in a row also and has come up a short price. She was awesome last start at Kensington, so good that she has to go up 3kg from that run for this race. She gets her first start at a mile which shouldn’t worry her though I do worry about how far she gets off them.

(4) Knowitall Jack should run a bold race out in front. If the track has any sort of leader bias, he will be one to make sure is in your exotics and quaddies. He can run some nice sectionals and with the 2kg claim, he could be value.

Tip: (7) Champagne Vega $7.00/$2.25 E/W
