Hawkesbury Racing Tips: Thursday, October 22nd

Having scratched from Kensington for this race shows their intentions with (5) Sirens as the Exceed and Excel colt looks to have his first race start. The betting shapes a race in two with (1) Shadow Colour being the only other horse likely to know off our bloke. He has had two trials at Randwick over the 900m and 1050m respectively and performed very well over both trial whilst looking set to make an impact first-up. Although he is short in the market ($2.10 as writing this), he looks the one I want to be with as the best of the day.

We have a wide-open maiden in Race 4 with a handful of chances, to which I have landed with (8) Diorissima. Having had two runs in this preparation for two placings, both of her runs we run with merit, but she did have a couple of excuses last time out. First-up she had to shift off heels in the straight after settling in the back half of the field and she finished off well giving the indication she needed longer. She then stepped up to 1400m though faded a touch in the straight after racing keenly throughout the race and settling a touch closer in the run. She steps back 100m for this race and gets a nice claim from Louise Day to be competitive. She gives the indication that she needs to settle towards the rear during the run to switch off and if she can do that here, she is going to be hard to hold out late in the piece.

This girl has wound up favourite for this event and I believe she will justify that favouritism here. (5) Angel Helena ran on superbly last start at Kembla Grange after settling in the back half of the field and ended up going down 1.7L in third as the favourite. She showed last preparation she performed significantly better second-up and over a longer distance which is what she gets here and is drawn to sit wherever she pleases. The in-form Tommy Berry takes the ride and should give her a peach throughout, and although the is no speed on paper, I expect there to be plenty in the race which will suit her. Expect her to get that elusive second win against her own sex here.

Tip: (5) Angel Helena – $2.15 Unibet

This mare is ready for this race and I’ll be very surprised he she is not in the top three. (7) Donnachiara showed tenacity last start at this track and trip, peaking in her run about 150m out before finding a second wind through the line which suggests she is looking for further. She faces the favourite and winner of that race (1) Brown Thomas 2kg better off at the weights which is going to help her cause. Although she sticks to the same distance here, she is much fitter for the run and will be put in a winning position a long way out from home. The mare has drawn nicely to get a gun run throughout and providing she does finish top three; I think she will be one to follow into next start.
