HORSES TO FOLLOW

La Mexicana (R4) – Didn’t look like there was 100% intent which is understandable first up with a big campaign ahead. She went back from the draw, hit the line well, traded very low in play but Plaquette had the turn of foot and race fitness to knock her off. If she can find a wet track in the early part of the Spring, she’ll be hard to beat, especially in mare’s grade.

Miss Albania (R4) – Just wasn’t ridden to her strengths, going much slower in front than usual. This was evident at about the 250m mark, where Propelle heads her and La Mexicana is nearly level. She’s a horse that needs to go fast in front, and perhaps they didn’t want to cook her first up, but she can improve many lengths off this performance.

Streets Of Avalon (R8) – Fought on very well and was only just run down late by Sansom who was in the better ground. If he strikes a dry track in the PB Lawrence, he’ll be hard to beat, and who’s to say he couldn’t win another group 1 in the Memsie if he gets conditions to suit?

Secret Blaze (R8) – Will need much further, but the return was quite solid here over 1200m. Was a progressive stayer early last year and looks to have come back well. Wait until he gets over 1800m+ but I think he’ll win a couple of races this prep.

HORSES TO SACK

The Inevitable (R2) – Has really struggled in two runs back this prep, after two poor efforts at the end of last prep. Not sure what’s happened to him but he’s desperately out of form and needs to be avoided at the moment.

Zesty Belle (R9) – Perhaps a bit harsh here but I just don’t think she, or this group of fillies (except perhaps Zou Dancer) are above average. Had her chance getting to the middle of the track and didn’t really do much despite the bunched finish. The winner and 2nd horse have come from similar positions in run and dropped her fairly comfortably. I’d be looking for the different form heading into the Spring.
