A $9.00 best bet winner in the final race was the saving grace for Trent Crebbin at Moonee Valley on Saturday, as the club hosted its first meeting back to close out the 2020/21 racing season.

Three horses made his list of horses to follow this week, while two were sent to the sack file.

HORSES TO FOLLOW

La Rocque (R2) – The stable said she wasn’t going to be forward enough to win, and she didn’t, but this was a great run first up. She settled last, came wide and flew home to be beaten 1.85L. Given she led in her first two career starts, she’s shown plenty of versatility and will be hard to beat next start.

Northwest Passage (R3) – Stayer resuming but hit the line nicely over 1600m first up. Beat home a few handy 1600-2000m types and after some questionable form last prep, he might be back on track once up to 2000m and beyond.

Tuvalu (R5) – Had him as a horse to follow first up if he didn’t run into I’m Thunderstruck. He did face that horse again and made a 3.5L improvement on Saturday. I loved his fight when challenged, and I think that if he jumps a bit faster and is ridden to lead, he goes very close to winning. I’m Thunderstruck got a beautiful swoopers ride, getting the perfect trail and only giving Tuvalu 2L on the turn. I think Tuvalu will keep improving and can definitely be followed.

HORSES TO SACK

White Hibiscus (R6) – Thought she was ready to do something after a solid run 2nd up but she had her chance here and was very plain. Maybe The Valley isn’t her track but in a race full of hard luck stories, she wasn’t one and has been rolled at short odds plenty of times.

Wilmot Pass (R9) – Always goes around in the market and often gets rolled due to his racing pattern. Wasn’t a bad run again on Saturday but hasn’t won in 11 starts and has been single figures in 8 of them.
