Racing this Friday heads to Newcastle for a showcase meeting, highlighted by the Newcastle Newmarket in race 7.

The track is rated a heavy 8 with the rail out 2 metres.

Billy Bestford has cast his eye across the meeting and has found a couple of bets as we look to fill the pockets before the weekend!

(1) Remlaps Gem is a deadset 900m specialist, winning 4/4 including a big win here at this track. Was a dominant winner up in QLD last start on a wet track and he should get conditions to suit again here. Has had a little freshen up since then which is ideal and he’ll map forward and take some catching.

(6) Fleet Air Arm is the up and comer, winning 3/3 and looks a progressive type. Was an easy winner last start, gets in nice and light here and will be right in this.

(2) Delexo was a touch unlucky fresh in a good Saturday race and will be fitter for that run back. Goes well with a run under the belt but just needs to handled dropping to 900m.

(3) Riodini drops out of the Apollo Stakes and should be much more suited back to this level. He handles wet ground and goes well 2nd up while he should see a nice run up on speed from that barrier. Hasn’t won for a while but his best is more than good enough.

(12) Dajraan can lead and will be near peak fitness now. With the lightweight and the best front-running jock on board, he can give this a good shake. Think he looks a touch overs?

(2) Nimalee flies fresh and has been trialling up nicely. She is ultra consistent and this is easier than some of the races she contested last prep.

(10) Through The Cracks loves it here at Newcastle, loves the sting out of the ground and has had a little freshen up. His best can win but the inside draw might be a bit sticky for him.

Billy Bestford

Billy has been an avid racing fan ever since he and a few mates started a punters club once they turned 18. Following the initial punters clubs, he was properly hooked after landing a nice collect on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and has had a soft spot for Japanese horses ever since. Is a massive fan of 'blinkers first time' and has been known to enjoy a 'Hail Mary' multi. Loves punting across metro Sydney and Melbourne every Saturday but isn't scared to venture West late in the day to find a Pikey special.
