Newcastle Racing Tips: Wednesday, January 19th

Billy Bestford previews every race at Newcastle today.

Newcastle Racing Tips

Wednesday racing heads to Newcastle for a seven race card.

The track is currently rated a good 4 but there is a bit of rain forecast so we should expect a downgrade. The rail is out 6 metres the entire circuit.

Billy Bestford has previewed every race of the meeting, with his best bet coming up in Race 7.

(5) November Rhythm did well to finish as close as he did on debut. Was caught wide there but kept finding to the line and should take great benefit from that experience. Will see much better run today from barrier 2 and should be right up on the speed.

(1) Barney Rabble showed big improvement first up to run 2nd on a heavy track. That was fresh off a 6 month break with no trials and you’d expect him to improve off that.

(11) Pair Of Hearts has looked okay at the trials and debuts today at her home track. She looks the best roughie to knock off the favourites.

Taking a chance that (5) Rapid Reload can knock off the fav here and run well first up off a long break. Looked reasonably good on debut back in October 2020 and has since trialled up okay last month. At the price I’m happy to have something on him.

No doubt (7) Adulting will be very hard to beat here and is another resuming off quite a long spell. Was well in the market in a strong maiden on debut and has since trialled well leading into this.

(9) Smart Sophia will enjoy stretching out to this trip following a solid debut 3rd.

(5) Jawaani has been in and out of work for a while but finally debuts today and looks a good winning chance. Trials have been good without being outstanding but I don’t think she will have to be a superstar to be winning this.

(8) Perfect Sapphire will enjoy getting out to 1400m now following a solid return over a shorter trip last start. Debuted in an extremely strong form race and should be ready to peak now having 3rd start.

(1) Blue Jager ran well fresh and was a touch unlucky – probably should have finished much better than 7th. Will come on from that and showed last prep that she is good enough to be winning this.

(1) Celtic Harp has plenty of race experience and should be nearing peak fitness now 3rd up and rising to 1400 looks ideal for him. The stable have booked Berry on him over a couple of the stablemates which might be a good lead and he looks ready to win now.

(9) The Replicant debuted in a good maiden and will take plenty of improvement out of that performance. The rise to 1400m will suit and from barrier 2 he can lob in a nice position in running.

Liked the first trial of (8) Paternal showing enough there to think he can run very well here. Will likely get back from the wide draw but there looks a genuine enough speed in this for him to be launching late.

(3) Big Short looks to have some upside and will be a better horse following the benefit of that first prep under his belt.

(3) Byron will improve off the fresh run where he probably didn’t enjoy the heavy going. His form last prep was very good and he has plenty of upside still about him. If the track isn’t too wet he looks a big winning hope.

(5) Herzegovina will need a bit of luck but has a very strong record 2nd up. The first up performance was encouraging in a reasonably strong race and the winner there looks above average. Can bounce back here.

(1) Capri Lane was in form towards the end of last prep and is having first start for the new stable here. Will likely lead and looked good winning a recent trial.

(4) Toomai looks well placed getting a good drop weight following a last start win over this trip. This only looks slightly tougher and she’ll carry 1.5kg less than she did there. Wheeler sticks for the ride and she draws well here today.

(2) Catapult drops in grade for this and will be the easiest race he’s contested for a while. Looks much more suited and up to 1500m finally will be appreciated.

(3) Mydeel is lightly raced and has more upside than a lot of these. Won well fresh and should be up on speed again today.

(1) Mihocek won well last start on the heavy and looks suited rising to the 1500m now. Still only the eight starts to his name and you’d expect him to keep improving. Think he looks ready for the trip and will be hard to hold out.

If the rain doesn’t hit too hard, (7) Tycoon Hallie looks the best on a tough card. She took some winding up in the straight fresh but ran on very well and was strong through the line which tells me she will eat up this trip now. Will get back anyway so wide gate isn’t a concern and she looks ready to win – providing the track isn’t too wet.

(1) Carlisle Bay will be much more suited dropping back to this grade following a good run in a much stronger race last start. He maps to be just off the speed and will handle all conditions. If it’s heavy I probably want to be on her.

(8) Nicochet next best and loves it wet.

Tip: (7) Tycoon Hallie - $2.45 at TopSport

Betting Strategy: 2u WIN Tycoon Hallie

Billy has been an avid racing fan ever since he and a few mates started a punters club once they turned 18. Following the initial punters clubs, he was properly hooked after landing a nice collect on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and has had a soft spot for Japanese horses ever since. Is a massive fan of 'blinkers first time' and has been known to enjoy a 'Hail Mary' multi. Loves punting across metro Sydney and Melbourne every Saturday but isn't scared to venture West late in the day to find a Pikey special.
