(10) Masako is nearing a win. The debut effort when closing well behind subsequent city winner Jezoulenko was good, and she was again solid on speed last start at Cranbourne. She should get every chance from barrier 2.

(5) Forged hit the line well on the Hillside track last start in a decent maiden. Small query dropping back to 1200m and onto the Lakeside track which may be harder to run on.

(4) Dickensian and (7) Award Me have both shown plenty of talent and neither would shock on debut.

Tip: (10) Masako- $4.20 at TopSport

(3) Throntari goes on top for me. She drops back from 1400m but both runs this prep have been good, first up behind Dannys St Darci who has won impressively since and 2nd up in better grade when running 2nd. I’d love to see her settle closer but in the small field she won’t be far away.

(1) Cardigan Queen has the talent to win this if she’s ready but the jumpouts haven’t been great. Be interested to see if there’s market support.

(6) Miss Middle Park won well at Cranbourne last start, coming from last to get up. Up an extra 100m in trip will suit.

(4) Cherrypick is also in the mix after running on okay at The Valley last start. If she jumps better she can lead these from barrier 1.

Tip: (3) Throntari- $4.60 at Sportsbet

Betting Strategy: 0.5 units WIN Throntari

(10) Poppy Joan is coming out of two very fast races. I thought she was a touch disappointing last start but she did travel +11L to the 800m at The Valley despite only being 3rd up. No issue having a gap between runs with Maher Eustace and she maps for a soft run.

(6) Annunciate can’t quite crack another flat win but he’s going well. Interesting they’ve taken blinkers off as he went quite keenly last start, but I think going faster in front suits him because he’s got better staying power than many of these.

(2) Fiji was dominant in an easier race at Terang last start. This is much harder but he can rol forward and will eat up 2400m.

(11) Sheezabigdeel next best.

Odds Last Updated: January 19, 2022, 10:17am (AEDT)

Liking the fresh horses out of maidens here. (1) Green Belt is the one to beat. He debuted over 1600m at Cranbourne and led all the way, going nearly +17L for maiden grade at the T/D. I like the fact he’s already proven at the trip, he either leads or sits OSL and as long as J Kah doesn’t go too slowly in front and allow the chasers into it, he should win.

(6) Matron Bullwinkel also won her maiden at Cranbourne in fast time, over 1400m. The margins were narrow but 1600m will suit and she maps for a soft run behind the speed.

(7) Seonee is racing well and coming out of higher grade, but 1600m is a query. She had every chance on speed at the mile last start in a slowly run race and wasn’t good enough. Perhaps ridden quieter she can improve, but then she’ll be giving Green Belt a decent headstart.

(3) Rock Wave is the other leader in the field and won well last start. He can figure.

Tip: (1) Green Belt- $1.80 at Sportsbet

Betting Strategy: 3 units WIN Green Belt

Tough to split the favourites but one at odds that can run well is (9) Megamea. I thought she ran well first up off a long spell for a new trainer, closing off well from a long way back. She hasn’t really drawn a gate many times but does have the speed to sit a bit closer from the inside here. She jumped out well leading into this prep and has contested some stronger races in her time.

(8) Murrami Express couldn’t quite get the job done as our best bet last start but didn’t run poorly by any means, just beaten by one who had a similarly good run. The first up run down the straight was very good and he maps just behind the speed.

(6) Inner Spirit was scratched from a very winnable race at Moe on Tuesday for this. He did it tough out wide but was too strong breaking his maiden last start. Not the easiest bm64 but he also maps well and is progressive.

(3) Jucconi also has upside but this is his first start on turf.

Tip: (9) Megamea- $31.00/7.00 at Sportsbet

(2) Gate Crash is the one to beat again. The win last start was quite soft, sitting midfield off a good tempo and just poking through a gap, only whipped thrice and I feel he could’ve won by more if he got to the outside at the right time. Up to 2100m will suit and he only rises 0.5kg after the claim. The Lakeside track might not be ideal but I think he’s better than these and should be approaching peak fitness now.

(8) French Moon ties in with the favourite through Secretly Awesome. He had every chance on speed against that horse last time and whilst he didn’t run poorly, his only win came on debut and he needs another.

(9) Wisaka will appreciate the extra trip but it’s hard to see him turning the tables on Gate Crash from last start.

(3) Miss Tenthousand is racing well in easier races but maps well and will be hard to get past.

(4) Unfair Dismissal is ready to peak 3rd up now. He’s come back well, just missing first up in a strong bm64, beating home Pal D’oro who had a very similar run and has bolted in at Caulfield since, and again working to the line well last start. Up to 1400m suits and he maps well at a big price.

(6) Logan Street Lion is the one to beat in my opinion. He should’ve won first up when badly held up on the Hillside track. He can only be fitter for that and with clear running can atone.

(9) Victory Bay has upside but comes out of a very slowly run race where she had every chance last start. Decent Raine should’ve won by a long way and has won out of the race since, but even the maiden win rated poorly and she’ll need luck from barrier 1.

(3) Vasmee bolted in last start at Werribee but did get every favour leading. This is much harder but he’s progressive.

Not much between a few of these and hence at the prices I want to spec (8) Jesta Dreama. His run last start at Flemington was good, getting back to last on the inside but getting off heels and working home well. He did start $41 there but was good the start prior when settling midfield which he can do here. He struggles to win but 3rd up off a small let up he’s ready to peak.

Jesta Dreama crossed the line with (7) Hasseltoff there who got to the outside earlier in a slowly run race and couldn’t reel in the leaders. He was luckless last start but will need luck again from an inside draw.

(1) Eluding led them up and I think went too slow in front but did still beat home the two mentioned above. He was unlucky dropping back to 1400m last start in a bm78 when held up, picking up okay again late. He’ll roll forward and run well again.

(15) Amfissa can improve after racing wide first up.

Tip: (8) Jesta Dreama- $21.00/5.50 at Bet365

Betting Strategy: 0.25/0.5 units E/W Jesta Dreama

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
