Very competitive race here but I’m keen to play around the two favourites (1) Mystery Man and (5) Pepper Assault. Mystery Man resumed with a 4th placing behind Apple Schnapps at Belmont and I think that form is very suspect. Pepper Assault won on debut but Somethingready should have won. That horse came out and franked the form by winning its next start easily, but I can’t get Pepper Assault as the short-priced favourite here.

(2) Saturday Sun is David Harrison’s only runner of the day, with Paul Harvey booked to ride. This stable is absolutely airborne, saddling up 10 winners from 28 starters this month! The horse has only won once but I think he’s better than what his record suggests, and he did go close first up over this distance last prep.

(9) Anoshar won on debut last prep here at Northam. Anne King runners go particularly well here, with nine of her 11 starters at Northam this season finishing in the top three. Recent trial was good and expect her to run a good race at double figure odds.

(7) Vicinity took a long time to break the maiden but now she’s got it out of the way, she might well be able to run another good race. She’s from another stable that has a great record when they bring runners to Northam.

Grant and Alana Williams bring one runner to Northam today and that’s (4) Fairy Fast with William Pike booked. Any other stable, I wouldn’t be keen backing a horse first up from more than two years off the track, but this stable are capable of pulling it off. This mare has won three of her six starts and has won from 1000m to 1700m. Obviously the huge query is how sharp she is off such a long spell, but her recent trial was good and she strikes a very winnable race.

(12) The Thunderess is the other one I’ll be backing, first up from the Lindsey Smith yard. She should have gone close to winning first up last prep but ran up backsides the entire straight. Her problem can be when they ride her negatively and give her way too much to do, but she’s certainly got the ability. Ran 2nd behind Fairy Fast in the recent trial and at double figure odds, looks the value.
