Tim Geers highlights three bets for WA racing at Northam on Thursday afternoon.

WA racing heads to the Avon Valley for an eight-race card at Northam today.

Tim Geers has done the form and picked out three bets for the meeting, which come up in Race 2, Race 4 and Race 6.

The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is out 6m.

Pretty keen to back the Steve Wolfe-trained debutant (4) Millivoy here. He has been impressive at the trials every time we’ve seen hi and he returned from a few months off to win his recent heat in good style. He should go forward and be very hard to run down. Steve Wolfe sends just the one runner to Northam which is always a good lead.

(12) War Hymn looks to have a fair bit of talent and comes into this off a good recent trial where she really hit the line strongly behind Plemont. That’s not a bad form reference and whenever Simon Miller brings them to Northam, you have to respect them. Pat Carbery goes on for the debut – she showed good initial speed in the trial but drifted a long way back, but over 1300m I expect she will be able to hold a spot on speed.

Keen to be with (5) Mightiness each way here. He trialled well at his first appearance for Hayden Ballantyne, and his run at Kalgoorlie was actually very good, despite the margin being nearly 5L. He completely blew the start, missing it by several lengths, and then went to the line virtually untested after running into traffic everywhere along the rail. Shaun McGruddy replaces the apprentice today and the step up to 1400m should be ideal. If he can jump with them and hold a spot, he should be running into the money here.

Tim Geers

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
