Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, December 8th

Midweek racing returns to Sandown for an eight-race card on the Hillside course today.

The track is rated a Good 4 with the rail in the true position and Trent Crebbin has previewed every race on the card.

His best bet comes up in Race 7 and his best value bet in Race 3.

Best Bet: Race 7 – (14) Designs

Best Value: Race 3 – (10) Honest Legend

Race 1 – 2YO Fillies Plate 1000m

There’s been a huge early move for (1) Bistro off the back of a couple of good jumpouts. The $4.60 bet when markets opened would’ve been nice but she’s short enough now at $2.50.

(2) Golden Queen looks like she’ll appreciate further but has been strong through the line in recent trials, the latest over 1050m.

(5) Rippling Belle looks to have good early speed and could lead from barrier 2. She bolted in her Cranbourne jumpout and no surprise to see her just pinch this from the front over the short course.

Race 2 – 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate 1300m

(6) Perceptive on top. She was solid on debut, running 2^nd to one who has since come out and run fairly well in a city bm64. She gets the blinkers on for her 2^nd start and gets a nice map from barrier 4.

(9) Saviona ran well in a good race on debut before a spell. She’s been off the scene for 40 weeks and is first up at 1300m but maps well.

(7) Perpetual Grace could be the best roughie. She was okay from the back at Mornington on a tough day to make ground. An extra 100m on a big track will suit.

(5) Newly Wed has jumped out well for her debut.

Race 3 – Maiden Plate 1400m

(10) Honest Legend was solid on debut in a good maiden. Up in trip with the blinkers on looks ideal and I think he can run a nice race at a price here.

(12) Legatus somewhat ties in with Honest Legend. He was slow out but rattled home on debut in an eye-catching effort, however the sectionals weren’t all that strong for the day, especially compared to Viviane, who beat home Honest Legend when they met. Up to 1400m will definitely suit if he can settle closer.

(6) Ocean Chief is an ex NZ horse who won’t have to be a star to win this. The draw is a bit sticky because he’d like to be on speed, but the jumpout was sound.

(4) Moktaffy is an Irish import for Waller first up. 1400m will be as short as he wants it but he’s drawn soft and may try to use the gate.

Race 4 – Class 1 Handicap 1000m

(4) Hurtle played up badly pre-race and did well to stick on for 3^rd first up. He drops back to 1000m here which I don’t mind. Not sure how they ride him from the wide gate.

(6) Along The River actually met Hurtle last prep, starting $12 to his $2.40. Prepared to forgive both on the heavy track, but the SP means something. Along The River was too strong on pace first up.

(9) Martini Special was consistent in some decent races last pep. Her only win did come on debut at 1000m and she gets a very soft map from barrier 3.

(8) Gulf Of Aden next best but back to 1000m is some query.

Race 5 – BM64 Handicap 2400m

Off last start, it’s hard to see what beats (1) Saving. He went straight to the front and kept running at Moonee Valley last start to bolt in by 6 lengths. His run prior behind Mr Cancun was also quite good and now at his right trip he’ll be hard to beat.

(2) Tigertiger was no match for Saving but kept on well for 2^nd. He gets a slight weight swing and did have the SP last start but even still, I can’t see how he makes back such a big margin.

(3) Annunciate should be fitter 3^rd up. Both runs back have been very good and he’s getting out to his right trip now. He’s shown he isn’t just a promising jumper and can match it on the flat.

(7) Glandam beat Saving last start at Moe on a soft track. He hasn’t raced since but has to be considered a chance off that effort. He’d like the rain to come.

Race 6 – F&M BM64 Handicap 1300m

Tough race, with (5) Americain Angel being freshened and dropping back in trip, which I don’t love. She’s started odds on at both runs this prep and looked in need of more ground so I’m happy to be against her, I’m just not sure what wins.

(10) Orlando Grove has been racing consistently in this grade and gets a soft map. Wouldn’t shock to see him break through.

(2) Lariat is in the same boat- consistent enough to win here and maps well.

(1) Succeed Indeed failed first up last prep but did start $4.60 behind Beau Rossa and her subsequent form was solid, albeit over further.

Tip: (2) Lariat- $5.00 at Sportsbet

Betting strategy: No Bet

Race 7 – BM64 Handicap 1800m

Have to stick with (14) Designs who was a strange run last start, in between runners and not really travelling before finally picking up very late and through the line. Up to 1800m is ideal 3^rd up, she gets Kah on and looks ready to win.

(3) Translator improved last start and will do so again at 1800m. Gets Willo on and he can run well.

(2) Brasada is consistent, small query at the end of 1800m from the wide gate but he’ll be hitting the line.

Race 8 – BM70 Handicap 1400m

(17) Paperboy doesn’t win many but his last run was quite good, sitting close to a strong tempo and fighting well for 2^nd to a handy horse. The draw makes things tricky and 1400m is a query but there looks decent tempo.

(14) Mrs Sippy is ready to win. She’s been close up in all runs this prep and this is no harder. If Kah can settle her a touch closer from barrier 3 she’ll be hard to beat.

(4) Fiery Red has a wide draw to overcome but was good fresh and is fresh here again at 1400m. The last 100m is a query if he has to work.

(2) South Parade is another with a query at the end of 1400m but was wide in a much better bm70 last start and can improve.
