(3) The Black Panther looks the horse to beat here. He was way out of his grade last start behind Sisstar and The Astrologist and wasn’t disgraced, finishing just under 6L away. His run prior in maiden grade over 1000m was excellent, coming from a long way back to run 3rd to Martini Special. The 1400m looks ideal now, and he draws perfectly in barrier 5.

(4) Typhoon Harmony was strong late on debut and probably gets back again from barrier 9, but certainly has claims.

(6) Eddie’s Choice gets Kah on from a good draw and looks close to a win.

Open race with a few chances. One of the leading hopes is (3) Audacious Heart who is having her 3rd race start. On debut she started $5 and ran on well behind Passionate Lass, before settling outside the leader last start and boxing on well, with a good gap back to 3rd. Kah takes over from Moor which is a huge positive, and she draws well in barrier 4.

(5) Dance To Dubai started $1.50 on resumption and sat outside a good speed but was no match late, finishing 3rd. Her run on debut was very good and if she can get across from the wide gate, she’ll be right in the finish.

(16) Write The Score looks the other big winning hope. She wasn’t beaten far in a handy 3yo race last prep and won a trial by 4L.

Interesting race here. He brings some very different form, but this (6) Pay The Man looks very progressive. It was an awful race at Murray Bridge, but he did it effortlessly from back in the field, winning by 5L with minimal effort. The step up to 2400m will definitely suit, and you’ve got to respect the stable bringing one over, especially as he strikes a pretty weak race.

(3) Perfect Illusion definitely brings the best form. His last two starts have been very good, running 2nd behind Deserved in a bm70, and 2nd to Miyake in a bm72. He can position up close to the speed from barrier 2 and will be hardest to beat.

They clearly look the two winning chances. I want to see what the market does because I think Pay The Man will get out a bit, coming out of such an awful race and probably getting back in the field. If that’s the case, I think he could be talented enough to pick them up.

Very tough. (5) Aswaat was an okay run last start after getting a long way back. He just had no hope the way the race was run, and I’d expect the 1600m to suit.

(1) Super Yulong has some 1600m form and finished 4th to Cherry Tortoni back in the Winter. He has to carry 62kg but does look close to a win.

(2) Abreed was impressive on debut on a heavy track. Up to 1600m will definitely suit, but I’d like to see him do it on a good track.

(3) Ididitforlove has a couple of things in his favour here. He’s only had 4 starts, winning 2 of them, and the two defeats were a 2nd to Masked Crusader, and a 6th (beaten 2.8L) by Hi Stranger when starting $2.90. From barrier one he should be able to go straight to the front, and the 1000m definitely looks his trip.

Speaking of 1000m specialists, (1) The Mobot is 3/4 at the trip and has to be respected. He’s another that will vie for the lead from barrier 2.

(7) Brazen Brando resumed with a good 2nd in a bm70 and gets Kah on from a good gate.

I’d prefer to see how (9) Jabali Ridge has come back despite bringing some decent 3yo form because he was getting a bit chewed up last prep.

In an open race, (7) Moeen looks a touch of value. She’s only had three career starts but did win nicely on debut and then ran well at her next two starts. Her run at this T/D before a spell was good finishing 2nd with 59.5kg, making solid ground behind an all the way winner. There were some handy fillies in that race too, most notably Modear who won impressively first up last week. The Stokes stable is going well after Pakenham, and they especially fire first up. At $9 she looks a good bet.

(1) Witchfulthinking is clearly the horse to beat. She absolutely bolted in at Terang last start, winning by 8L. Prior to that she started $4 against The Astrologist and Fundraiser, but finished last. I’ve got no idea what to make of her last run, but if she brings it again, she’ll probably win.

I didn’t love the trial of (12) Toyz On Fire, who had to be shown the whip a couple of times to win in the 4 horse field, but her debut campaign was very good and if she brings that form, she’ll be competitive.

(13) Spring Break was a dominant maiden winner at Hamilton last start. She can go through the grades, and this isn’t a very strong race.

(4) Anirishman will be on speed from barrier 2 and has claims, coming off a solid 3rd behind Redwood Rising last start which is okay form.

(1) Hard ‘n’ Tough was very good first up behind Night Witches at The Valley. The step up to 1800m will suit, and his 2nd up record is good. He’s got the big weight but does get a handy 3kg claim and will just need some early luck to get across from the wide gate.

I think (4) Fundraiser is definitely the horse to beat again. He didn’t let us down as the best bet last start at Mornington, getting a nice run and putting them away well over 1200m. The 2nd horse there, Brazen Song led all the way to win at Werribee on Sunday and was well backed to do so. The 1400m is the obvious query, but I think he’ll get it, having run an unlucky 3rd behind Charleise and Librate over 1300m when closing well late.

(8) Highland Jakk was very good first up but only steps up 100m here and I think he could need a bit further.

(5) Shadow Goddess draws poorly but did run well in a decent bm70 last start.

(1) Santelmo Fuego drops sharply in grade and gets a good 3kg claim from Campbell Rawiller.

I’m sticking with Fundraiser again- he’s done nothing wrong this prep and can overcome the wide gate and 2kg weight increase. If Lane can get him midfield with cover, he’ll be hard to beat again.

Tip: (4) Fundraiser $3.9 TAB

Betting Strategy- 2 units WIN Fundraiser

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
