Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, March 24th

Racing at Sandown Lakeside on Wednesday and Trent Crebbin has gone looking for leaders throughout.

Sandown Racing Tips

Racing at Sandown Lakeside after a rare day of no racing yesterday with meetings abandoned.

Trent Crebbin is chomping at the bit after the day off, and his best bet comes up in Race 4.

The track is rated a soft 5 with showers around and the rail is out 9 metres, which should suit on pace horses.

Best Bet- Race 4 (6) The Billionaire

Best Value- Race 5 (4) Divine Diosa

(5) Michigan does look the one to beat in the first. He can settle on speed which should be advantageous and the form around his two runs last prep read well. He was beaten 3.25L by Nicolini Vito at start 2 which is good form for a maiden, and his narrow debut 2nd was on a soft 7 so he looks to handle all conditions.

(8) Schauffele was solid on debut in a fairly average maiden but does find J Kah back from suspension to negate the sticky draw.

(3) Foturi has jumped out fairly well and draws nicely for Mcneil and the airborne team Hawkes on debut.

(6) Miracle Day certainly has the form to win this, but the map is just a query from barrier one and he could be 3 back and needing luck.

Tip: (5) Michigan- $2.60 at Sportsbet

Betting Strategy: 1 unit WIN Michigan

(12) Elegant Boom was spelled after a disappointing debut run in Adelaide where he started $2.90 and ran 4th to Gulf Of Suez, with that horse since running well in the Blue Diamond preview. He’s still got plenty to learn but goes on top.

(7) Salamanders is racing well and should appreciate the 1300m. Drawn barrier one with Olly taking the ride, she should be right on speed and hard to run down.

(6) River Cat could be the value. It’s not an ideal set up going from 1000m to 1300m, but she maps very nicely from barrier 2 and Lane sticks with her.

(11) Biscayne Bay was beaten 8L on debut by Scorched Earth, who won again on All Star Mile day. With natural improvement she can figure.

Found this quite tough. (1) Prince Of Helena is racing very well and the 3rd to Faretti last start reads well, however it’s not really his pattern to settle on speed. Barrier 5 might mean they try to settle closer but I don’t want to be on anything midfield or worse on the Lakeside course.

(9) Iowa Hawkeye will roll forward and was okay behind Eagles Crag last start. He handles all ground and if he can get rolling rather than sit and sprint he shouldn’t be far away.

(4) Via Capo can roll forward but won’t want much more rain given his best form is clearly on good tracks.

(7) Smokin’ Romans has looked a bit below his 3yo form in two runs this prep, and does need a dry track to perform off what we’ve seen so far, so I’m prepared to risk.

The only query with (6) The Billionaire is a potential soft track. All three runs this prep have been good, winning two, with the 2nd placing coming on a soft 5. Before the gelding he ran twice on a soft track and was poor. Willing to forgive that and just focus on what he’s done this prep and hope it isn’t too wet, because he should be able to cross and lead and be hard to run down.

(9) Quietly Discreet is the danger first up. She’s a bit hit and miss but her best runs would put her right in this. She was okay as favourite first up last prep in Adelaide over 1000m, so the 1200m today is interesting.

(11) Wild Charlotte next best coming off a good first up win.

Interesting runner in the form of (4) Divine Diosa first up. She’s clearly got the best form through the 3yo filly’s middle distance ranks from last prep. Her best win was over 1400m on a soft 6 on this circuit, beating the likes of Succeed Indeed, Starelle and Salto Angel. The booking of Lane intrigues me and she led all the way in a Flemington jumpout. At the odds I thought she was a decent play.

(8) Elidi should’ve won at Pakenham last start when badly held up, but likely gets a long way back from barrier 9 which is enough to put me off.

(7) Circle Of Magic was solid first up here over 1200m and draws for another lovely run in barrier 2.

(2) Charm School didn’t have the best of luck in the same race and her form around Malicorne and Ecumenical last prep obviously puts her right in this.

The OTI colours dominate the market headed by (4) Blue Ocean who was disappointing last start at $1.85. Not sure what to make of him, that seemed an ideal race and that 1 win from 11 starts is starting to look a bit prohibitive.

(7) Trench Warfare steps up in trip after consecutive 1600m runs. He looks ready to tackle the 2100m and of the two I’d be leaning his way.

(10) Rippa Choice probably comes out of the best form behind Sign Seal Deliver at this T/D last start and does get Willo on but could get back in the field.

Not a stack of interest in the staying race, the best ride probably wins it.

(6) Johandough is the horse to beat. It was only a class 1 she contested last start, but she was dominant on speed and was 9 weeks between runs there. She’s got a strong SP profile, and the big closing 2nd to Hard ‘n’ Tough before the let up is good form for this. Draws well, should land in a good spot and be hard to beat.

(10) Kanzai is the danger, but I’d want to see how the track is playing first. I think she’s crying out for 2100m after a strong effort over 1800m last start, grinding away to the line. Perhaps she can settle a bit closer up in trip and at the price I think she’s a good bet.

(4) The Mockingbird is racing well, finishing 3rd to Shepard last start. Doesn’t win out of turn and is 5 weeks between runs but good enough on her day.

(5) Fiorente Lass next best stepping sharply in trip.

(8) Excelleration is clearly the one to beat but is into odds on after scratchings. The debut win was very good when charging home, and he was half a length off Fundraiser who went through the grades to Saturday class well last prep. On talent he’ll go very close, but I don’t want to take the price about a horse that probably gets back in the field at this track.

(12) The Stager absolutely bolted in at Sale last start to break his maiden, winning by 7.5L. That was with the blinkers on first time, and he keeps them here. I’d expect he leads this field and could take a stack of running down.

(2) O’reilly Mcluke was 7.5L off Marabi two back which in all honesty is pretty good form. He atoned last start with a strong win at Warrnambool on heavy going, so any rain wont phase him, and the horse he beat did run 3rd to Chica Fuerte on Friday night. He maps nicely from 3 and wouldn’t shock.

Taking on Excelleration at the $1.80 quote from the map, trying to get it beat with two horses on speed.

Tip: (12) The Stager- $4.20 at TAB

Also Backing: (2) O’reilly Mcluke- $7.60 at Sportsbetting

Betting Strategy: 1 unit WIN The Stager, 0.5 units WIN O’reilly Mcluke

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
