Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, May 26th

Racing at Sandown Hillside on Wednesday and Trent Crebbin has previewed every race below.

Sandown Racing Tips

Racing on the Sandown Hillside on Wednesday for a typically strong midweek meeting.

Trent Crebbin has done the form and is keen on a McEvoy trained speedster in the last race.

The track is rated a good 4 but expect a downgrade, and the rail is out 8 metres.

Best Bet- Race 8 (8) Meteorite

Best Value- Race 6 (5) Mr Mooj

(9) Tycoon’s Girl makes her debut and looked very good leading throughout to win a synthetic jumpout. She looked to do it easily late and Kah takes the ride from barrier 3. The stable are hitting form lately too.

(1) Rambeau kept kicking to win for us first up at Pakenham. Perhaps 1000m is the key to him because he didn’t look like he was crying out for a step up in trip. His form last prep reads well.

(6) Vinlago next best coming off a solid 2nd behind Mimosas at Flemington.

Going with the 2yo against the older horses in the form of (11) Karolinka. I think she strikes a winnable maiden and I thought she ran well behind Deprivation last start, with that horse just nosed out at Flemington on Saturday. There isn’t much speed here and I’d expect she can lob in the box seat from barrier 1.

(2) Fac has run 2nd at all three starts. He’s run well in all but just keeps finding one better. How far back he gets from barrier 10 is a query.

(6) Twotochoose was good late on debut and will appreciate the 1400m. If he can settle midfield from barrier 3 he’ll be hard to hold out.

 (7) Whispering Bob wasn’t completely disgraced behind Steinem on debut and wouldn’t completely shock.

Tip: (11) Karolinka- $7.00 at Sportsbet

Betting Strategy: 0.5 units WIN Karolinka

(2) Skywolf will roll forward from out wide and likely lead. He was too strong at $1.45 two back in a fairly strong maiden and was only run down very late at Pakenham last start on a night where plenty were getting off the fence and coming from off the speed. Will be in this for a long way again.

(1) Rockribbed was sent out at $1.45 at Donald and did enough to break his maiden, off the back of a nice Randwick trial. It was a bit workmanlike, but he should improve stacks from the experience and Kah takes the ride from a lovely gate. It and Skywolf can dominate the race on speed.

(6) Knock Knock is stuck on one win from 15 starts but a repeat of last start behind Corner Pocket would win this. He just always needs luck and will get a long way back from a wide gate.

(3) Son Of Bielski next best and should appreciate 1400m.

I wasn’t the only one labelling (2) Nikau Spur the best of the day at The Bool, with trainer Dave Eustace declaring him a moral pre-race. Unfortunately he was awful at $2.10 and was found to have pulled up lame. If you can forgive that, he’d be very hard to beat here. The first up win was outstanding, but he’ll get back again here and the market has certainly forgiven him.

(8) Safeeya looks the logical danger and is consistent with Kah taking the ride. Both runs this prep have been solid.

(10) Vivacious Award should appreciate 1500m off last start and drops 4.5kg in weight, with Bates replacing Bull from barrier one.

I’d want $2.30 to back Nikau Spur and I think there’s a good chance we get it given he’s $2.10 on betfair Tuesday night, so I’ll be looking to play late.

(2) Kurabui is clearly the horse to beat. She’s unbeaten and was dominant first up at Pakenham in a similar race. She handles all conditions, Kah sticks and she’ll just need clear air from barrier 2 to be winning again.

(1) La Chevalee is the danger. She was first up off a long spell and ran well at The Bool, sticking on for 2nd behind Witchfulthinking. We should be looking at a soft 5 here and she would prefer it even wetter, but she’s got the talent.

Can’t really see anything else winning, and the market reflects that with the two taking up approximately 87.5% of the market. The percentage has to come down another ~20% and I’d be more than happy to back Kurabui at even money. Another late play on the fair.

Top pick Burleigh Boy has been scratched which has made it tricky. (5) Mr Mooj raced wide on speed and was well beaten at his Aus debut, in what turned out to be a race dominated by swoopers with the trifecta all coming from 10th or worse at the 400m. He ran well in Ireland in some 3yo handicaps which would measure up here and although he might want further than 1800m this is an average race and he’s got the most talent.

(9) Pearlman appreciated getting out to 1600m last start behind Montia. The step up to 1800m looks suitable again and if he can get clear air from barrier 2 he should be hitting the line well.

(11) Facemask was good at The Bool in a race dominated by the leader. He draws wide here and often gives himself too much to do.

(13) Aznavour was good in the same race and maps well from barrier 5.

Happy to take the price about Mr Mooj considering how well backed he was first up in a harder race, which was easy to forgive.

Deep race. (7) Rights Of Man looked good in his first prep, starting $1.45 on debut and saluting before running a good 2nd to Helavabel who has progressed since, and then getting too far back but hitting the line well behind War Correspondent and Snapper at The Valley. He was still very green and if he’s improved he’s the horse to beat.

(6) Mckeever won very well on debut beating a subsequent 5.5L winner and backed it up with a strong 2nd to Continuance at The Bool when racing wide, with the winner leading all the way. Continuance has since run okay when well supported last week. Staying at 1000m is some knock- I would’ve liked him back up to 1100m.

(11) Prince Of Mercia finally broke through at $1.70 last start after three 2nd placings. He’s been racing well in strong maidens and Kah sticks with him for Clayton Douglas.

(1) Great Leveller is flying in SA and beat a fairly handy one in Star Of Uma last start, showing great fight. Will Price sticks and he maps beautifully.

Fairly keen on the chances of (8) Meteorite who comes here first up from a spell. He’s a very fast horse and absolutely bolted in first up last prep over the 955m, running a sizzling 54.54 to win by 5L. He won easily again at Sale on a heavy track and struggled after that for the prep, but at his best he’ll be very hard to catch in this. Gets in with 57.5kg after the claim, jumped out well and looks a good bet

(3) Zipping Boy was too good for them on the synthetic last start, leading all the way. Some query dropping back to 1000m but any rain around won’t worry him.

(4) Our Wind Spirit boasts a very good fresh record and the only real failure of his career was at Flemington when he pulled up lame. The draw is sticky because ideally he’d want to be better than midfield but is up to this class.

(12) Peggy Selene is consistent but I don’t think she beat much at all last prep and I think she’s well and truly short enough at equal favourite.

Tip: (8) Meteorite- $5.20 at Sportsbetting

Betting Strategy: 1.5 units WIN Meteorite

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
