Two that stand out here and they are the top two in the weights.

I’m keen to take the $6.50 available for (1) Kasi Farasi who resumes with a drop in class and a notable jockey booking with Purton going straight on. He’s trialled well this time in and provided he gets a good trip from barrier 9, I can see him running very well here at a good price.

(2) More Than Enough looks the obvious danger and the market reflects that as he’s currently favourite. He’s gone close in his past two starts. Karis Teetan takes over the ride today from the good draw and with even luck he looks the horse to beat.

Keen to have something on two horses both at $5.00 here.

(4) Stonger comes into this first up with three trials under the belt. He goes very well fresh, with two wins and a 2nd from three starts. He’s performed well over this track and distance previously and fresh up looks his best chance of picking up a race like this.

The other horse is (5) Duke Wai, who actually beat Stronger by 1.5L back in December last year over this track and distance. Overall he’s had five starts at the 1000m at Sha Tin, for three wins and two minor placings. Barrier 12 is a good draw down the straight so he looks well placed if he brings his best form.

The favourite (1) Gold Chest drops out of Group 3 company and finds himself carrying 2kg less than when he won here two starts ago. He’ll be hard to hold out.

The feature of the day is the G3 Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse over 1800m, where he have Hong Kong’s best stayer (1) Exultant resuming from a spell.

It’s an intriguing race, especially with the pace taken out of it by Time Warp’s scratching. He’s the best horse in the race, Exultant, but he’s always vulnerable first up in this race when giving weight away. He ran 3rd in this race last year and at around $2.35-$2.60, I’d be looking to oppose him again today. He draws midfield in barrier 7 and it looks to be a slow tempo on paper, so it will be interesting to see where he gets to. I doubt they’ll want to use him up and gas him first up.

I’d be looking to play small on (2) Southern Legend and (12) Savvy Nine. Southern Legend comes into this third up from a spell and should be peaking. He wasn’t beaten all that far by Golden Sixty and Ka Ying Star last time out. Meanwhile, Savvy Nine is a winner of just one race in his career but his first two runs this time in have been sound. He drops to 51.5kg and he’s run 2nd in both starts when second up previously. Karis Teetan jumps off Southern Legend to ride him and the form behind Excellent Proposal is strong. He’s a $6.50 chance here.

Tim Geers

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
