Tim Geers previews Wednesday’s six-race card at Warwick Farm with his tips and best bets.

WarwickFarmRacecourse

Sydney racing takes place at Warwick Farm on Wednesday, with a short and sharp six-race card to get through.

The track is once again rated a Heavy 10, with the rail out 3m the entire circuit.

Small fields are the theme of the day but Tim Geers has previewed every race with his tips and best bets below.

Best Bet: Race 3 – (4) Samarkand

(2) Giancarlo looks to have found a great opportunity to win on debut here. He’s been trialling well and has just the four rivals to beat today. He had the measure of Maralago when they met in a trial, and Maralago then came out and ran 0.02L 2nd first up at Newcastle. That trial was on a heavy 9 and being by Pierro, hopefully he handles the ground.

(8) Excelladus is first up today and has his first outing as a gelding. Was well backed as soon as markets opened so will be interesting to see what happens closer to jump time.

(1) Oxford Vision has placed in all four career starts and will be thereabouts again.

Tip: (2) Giancarlo $3.20 Moneyball

A field of eight 2YO’s to go around on a heavy 10 track – not a race you’d want to get too involved in.

(5) Ringmaster makes his debut today after two good recent trials. Looked to handle the heavy ground OK in the first of those trials and improved nicely to win his latest one well. Stable have a poor record at Warwick Farm and in any case, I wouldn’t be wanting to jump into the short odds.

(7) Silentsar trialled OK in his only outing on the synthetic track. Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou normally have them ready to fire fresh so no surprise to see a good run here.

(10) Lunar Rocks ran well on debut at Newcastle on heavy ground and the form out of the race has been reasonable. Expect a good showing.

(3) Built next best.

(4) Samarkand was dominant first up at Kembla Grange and finds a suitable midweek race to come to now. That win was on a heavy 10 so the conditions shouldn’t be an issue and on his home track he’ll prove hard to beat.

(6) Chateaux Park is ready third up from a spell. Might be a touch outclassed but is yet to miss a placing from three starts when third up and does go well in the wet.

(7) Vittoriosa went toe-to-toe with Smirk last start and they pulled 3L clear of the third horse.

(1) Dream Runner next best.

Tip: (4) Samarkand $2.50 Ladbrokes

Not too excited about a 2130m race on a heavy 10.

(4) Main Stage is flying, with five consecutive top-two finishes. Was an all-the-way winner at Canterbury last start and should be able to find the front and dictate again today.

(2) Pesto is third up and rises straight from 1500m to 2130m. He didn’t get much luck last start but he’s still been well beaten in two runs this prep.

(3) Hemmerle is racing well and isn’t out of contention in a race like this.

(5) Italian Informant only found one better last start in the form of Democracy Manifest, which looks a decent form reference. That was here at Warwick Farm on a heavy 9 so we know the conditions won’t pose a problem today.

(1) Rebel Shadow resumes from a spell and the son of Rebel Dane’s best form has all been on wet tracks. He broke his maiden on a heavy 10 so provided he’s fit enough, expect him to run a big race fresh.

(2) Coal Crusher resumed with a good win at Wyong over 1000m on a heavy track. Has won up to 1300m previously so the step up to 1200m shouldn’t be an issue, and the heavy ground is suitable. Looks hard to beat but this is a tougher race.

(1) Game Theory is flying, coming into today off back-to-back wins. He’s another that handles the heavy tracks and although he has to carry top weight, rates highly on current form.

(5) Troll Peninsula is likely to need further but is an interesting runner on Australian debut.

Tip: (2) Coal Crusher $3.50 PlayUp

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
