Pakenham Racing Tips: Thursday, November 26th

We kick off the Pakenham meeting with a 1200 metre maiden plate. (10) Sugartown was pretty good first-up placing second behind Vowmaster who has subsequently gone on to win again. The form from that initial race is stacking up, so we can expect Sugartown to be in the thick of it here if it maintains that effort. The query is the wider gate and the additional work she will need to do in order to land in a good spot. The combination of O’Brien and Damian Lane is a positive, so happy to have her on top.

The threats are everywhere, with (5) Energy Within a chance after showing plenty of consistency, but may want a touch further before peaking.

(4) Diamonds has had early support coming in from $9.50 to $6.50 so there must be some high-hopes. Include into the exotics.

This race is wide open and there are odds on offer, which is why we want to play. (1) Swan Cap is the clear obvious choice after a solid previous run, which resulted with some good form lines. The wide draw is a bit of a nuisance.

The other key runner is (9) Royal Gun Salute who has already chalked up two second places, and should be fitter and more mature this time in.

However the one that appeals at $8.00 is (3) Lovano who gets the inside lane and should have the pace to take the lead, or sit in behind the leader, potentially (4) Marius. The Equiano gelding has had nine starts and five places—and is starting to become an ‘almost horse’. Today could be the day, with one run under the belt, the right field, and a good draw. Daniel Moor takes the ride. Each-way play.

There is some interest in the Price/Kent first starter (2) Kurabui who has trailed well leading into this. Normally the stable seems to take one or two races for their runners to peak, but she looks like she may be ready first-up. She has a little bit of early market support which is another positive. The draw works in her favour, so Michael Dee should give her every chance.

The threat is clearly (4) Pouvoir De Soir who has been consistent without winning. The races she has competed in admittedly have not been the strongest, and she seems to find a couple better each time. On this occasion we’re happy to take her on.

The bm64 over 1400 metres and we are keen to take on the short-priced favourite (11) Vibrant Glider who won last start after a couple of unsuccessful prior attempts. The jump from maiden to bm64 is always a tougher assignment when against a larger well-raced field, so she looks vulnerable here. There is plenty of speed in the field, including her, and we can see her getting burned at the start—so the other question will be how much will she have left.

Likewise, (8) Sphera, (6) Kiptanui, (12) Brueghelio and (9) Ping Ping all draw alongside each-other (along the inside) and will be attempting to gain a great position.

(2) Nothin’ Leica High will be the one ready to take advantage and slot in behind them on the outside. Noel Callow is a wise jockey, and he’ll let the newbies to the donkey work. The High Chaparral gelding has a pretty good first-up record considering he does his best work over further, but he generally competes in a lower grade first-up before graduating into the bm70 type races over longer. There is every chance this is a warm-up, but he could just sneak a prize. Considering he is a good each way price, we’re keen to take what’s on offer.
