After a big day from the team on Wednesday, The Horse has found five more races he’s keen to bet in at Bendigo on Thursday.

The team at here at RacingBet cleaned up across yesterday’s meetings at Sandown and Warwick Farm, so now we turn our attention to Thursday’s meeting at Bendigo.

The short priced favourite (2) Yulong Island comes here after a 137 day break where he had his two best mates removed. Yet to break maiden grade, he has previously raced in better company—form that looks good enough to be taking this one out. You can expect the Hawkes stable to have him firing first-up, and he has jumped out solidly leading into today’s race. He takes on an average field here today— where many of the runners have arguably already had their chance.

Outside of Yulong Island the market is quite wide, indicating that punters (and bookies) are a little unsure about where the threat will come from. I tend to agree with the market. (6) Zion and (1) Galactus look the best of the rest.

Another maiden over the 100 metres with speed spread across the track. (3) Localchella should get the easy lead from the inside gate, but has shown very little coming into this.

Top weight (1) Akahai has shown a little more potential, placing behind La Mexicana first up last preparation, while looked to lose some of that quality in her subsequent runs, so I think she should show her best first-up.

The one with the quality form-lines is (2) Diamonds Inthe Sky who has raced only once and ran fourth behind Parlophone and Peggy Selene—both of who would be short priced favourites in this field. She should be ‘inthe’ hunt for a long way today. Craig Williams takes the ride, and Peter Moody will have her ready to go. She goes on top.

(10) Veranskova will be supported and shouldn’t be ignored.

This is a pretty small field taking on 1100 bm64—only seven runners. The top weight is (1) Marine Belle who comes into this with the best looking form. Already a winner at the bm64 level, the Brazen Beau filly is dropping back in grade here and gets John Allen on. Johnnie has butchered a couple lately, but he still has some authority over the other key jockeys here.

The threat is (2) Substantial who has the next best form lines backed by the next best sectionals. She gets a handy 3kg claim, and a handy inside draw. In the small field the speed map is a non-issue. So Marine Belle looks to have her covered.

Pretty keen to stick with the Dabernig & Hayes runner (7) Baaqyah despite a disappointing run last time in a bm64. The I Am Invincible filly did show some potential three back at Donald, but went into a harder grade and arrived fourth behind Written Beauty. She had been scorching the turf around Moonee Valley. Despite the average last start, she drops back in grade here and meets a much easier field. If she cannot win this one the stable may need to look at playing with her gear or giving her a rest.

(5) Floreat Pica is the threat, but isn’t getting any real weight or draw favours.

(6) Just Like Mum has had a confusing preparation. She won a bm58 graded race early on, and then ran 6^th in the same grade. She jumped suddenly to a bm70 competing in several of the higher graded races before stepping up again to a bm80 without actually winning one. On that day she placed 3^rd behind Power Scheme, before dropping back again to bm64 (where she failed again). Either way, her run behind Power Scheme is good enough form to be winning here—another bm58 race. The problem is she just doesn’t seem to win that often. Just can’t get away from her in this field.

The competition will be from (2) The Moors—not the Moops. Unlike Just Like Mum, she has been racing consistently, placing 4^th, 2^nd and 2^nd in this grade. She will be right there again.

The Horse

The Horse found the thought of placing bets and drinking beers much more appealing once he was married, and that led to an interest in the many intricacies of The Great Game. He enjoys the challenge of predicting what will happen in any given race, but also loves horses themselves, none more so than the mighty mudlark Jungle Edge. His focus lies on metropolitan racing in Victoria and NSW, however isn’t afraid to find one out wide. Away from racing, The Horse is an avid drummer – quite a difficult task with a set of hooves.
