This looks a race between the top two in the market but I’ve got (7) Sequalus ahead of the current favourite (8) Tycoon Bucks. I think barrier could potentially be a bit tricky for Tycoon Bucks, who tends to settle midfield, while Sequalus should jump and lead from barrier 6. He ran 2nd on debut last preparation at Cranbourne when he led, only run down late in the piece, before failing second up at Sale. He was sent for a spell straight after that so clearly he wasn’t at his best. He resumes today and the stable have only had one runner here this year, which was a winner, so hopefully they can keep their 100% record intact today. At the prices, keen to be with Sequalus.

With one at big odds here. (9) Now And Forever is the second rank outsider of the field at $19 but I expect him to improve sharply on his poor showing first up. He was beaten 8L at Terang on that occasion, but that’s not unusual for him first up from a spell. On debut he was beaten 6.5L and he then came out and ran 3rd at his next start, beaten just 0.6L. Then last preparation, he was beaten 4.5L first up as the $2.40 favourite at Horsham, before coming out second up and winning at Dunkeld. So I’m not too worried about the fact he was well beaten first up this time in. Dean Yendall goes on today which is always a big positive from this stable, he draws barrier 1 so should be up on the pace and trainer Symon Wilde has a good record at Ararat over the past two years. Expect a big showing at big odds!

I think (10) Cheronkoh can bounce back after finishing last at Mornington last start, even though it was only a field of 4. Prior to that she ran 2nd in a BM64, which followed a maiden win at Murtoa. She drops from a BM70 back to a BM58 today, so she should find this significantly easier, and with the Maher-Eustace horse scratched this morning, this race looks well within her keeping. Trainer Kevin Corstens has had three runners here in the past two years, for two wins and a 2nd. This is his only runner of the day so with even luck, she should be going very close.

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne.
